I had my breast augmentation surgery 22 days ago. I have an event this weekend that I would like to get a spray tan for. It would be 3.5 weeks/ almost 4 weeks after when surgery when I would get it. My incisions look fully closed and just like small pink lines.. Is it okay to get a spray tan or does this put me at risk for an infection?
Answer: Spray Tan following breast augmentation Thank you for this great question! First I want to applaud you with utilizing spray tanning in place of the tanning bed! Skin health is very important and you are taking the correct route to achieve a natural and healthy glow. Regarding your breast augmentation and spray tanning I typically will request that my patients refrain from using any lotions, creams, or any other type of activity that may compromise the incision while you are healing. As long as the incision is fully closed you should be perfectly fine to receive your spray tan without covering the incisions. As always, I strongly urge you to follow up with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to your spray tan appointment to make sure you are fully released to do so. Although the instance of a complication arising at this point from a spray tan is minimal it is always best to be safe. I am always careful to discuss skin protection as your scar is healing as well reminding my patients to utilize sun block until the scar is fully matured which can take between 12-18 months. I do hope you have found this information helpful and I wish you luck!
