Itching around the elastic in my post surgery bra. Any remedies?

I'm one day post opp and after waking from a nap this afternoon I had a lot of pain and itching on my sides. It's from the post surgery bra tightening on my skin. Are there any ointments or lotions etc that can help with this? Thank you in advance!

Hi there, Thank you for your question. In some cases you can put a thin tank top or t-shirt under the bra OR you can contact your surgeon and ask them if it is ok to replace the surgical bra with something more comfortable. Best,

Thank you for your question,Switching or washing your bra might help reduce the itching if there is any residue on it from surgery. You may also have a sensitivity to the surgical soap or the adhesive tape. Talk to your surgeon about using antihistamine medications. Hope this helps! Thanks for the question. In my practice, after performing a BA I recommend to my patients to limit the movement of the arms for two weeks. After that, you can move your arms taking care and always with common sense. In this regard, it's not advisable to carry heavy weights to prevent the implant out of position, and allow the formation of the physiological capsule around the implant, also to avoid pain and breast swelling. Kind regards

First I would remove the bra and take a look at that area that there is no rash.  Then I would switch to a different bra.  Have your surgeon also take a look at that area to see if this is more than just dry skin and irritation post surgery.  In most cases it is dry skin.  If that is the case then I would apply a simple water based moisturizer to that area.  Hope this helps.

Hi Meghan, I would contact your doctor as you may be having a skin reaction to the material of the bra. This can continue to worsen over time. You can also try placing a thin strip of cotton material like from a tee shirt between the bra strap and your skin to block direct contact with your skin. Sometimes taking some benadryl can help speed up resolution but you still need to reduce the direct contact between your skin and the irritating area of the bra. Hope that helps.

Check under the bra where you are irritated and make sure you don't have any residue from skin cleaner used during surgery. Confirm with your surgeon that you are allowed, but you may feel better applying a moisturizer to the area that is itchy.  If the bra is rubbing you, you may want to put a panty liner inside the bra with the sticky side against the bra and the absorbent side against your skin to prevent rubbing.  If you have pain or itching near your incision sites be sure to contact your surgeon immediately. Hope that helps.
