What is the best option for adding volume to face? (photos)

Question

I have volume loss in my face. It doesn't make me look older, but less attractive. I have been on a few consultations, but no one wants to add volume to my face. They all say I look fine. My face lacks the definition it once had, I just want that back. I have attached two photos. The one with the red hat is me now, the other is a much younger photo. How do I recreate the volume I once had to my entire face?

Hi Bambi0.  Options to add volume to your face include fat transfer, fillers or biological stimulants. There are pros and cons to each:  survival of the fat transfer is very technique dependent, is a surgical method and creates a donor site that also heals; filler placement is effective, can be done in clinic, and can be precise with selection of different products for different areas of the face (for example Voluma is good for cheeks, Restylane & Juvederm are good for smile lines, other fillers are good for tear troughs, and so on); the stimulants like Sculptra encourage your body to make more collagen & work slowly over time.  Be sure to seek consultation with an ABPS certified plastic surgeon who has expert injector status to review all of your options, the risks, longevity of results, need for repeat injections, etc. Best wishes!

There are many different techniques for correcting facial volume and the the number one concern is to see the professional that has experience with different modalities such as fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma), collage stimulators (Sculptra, Radiesse, Bellafill) and even fat transfer.In person consultation is the best and that is what I would suggest.I hope that helps and best regards, Dr. Sapijaszko.

there are a number of options for you and i suggest a formal consult, as sculptra would be great as a foundation for lifting and contouring and other fillers for addressing early signs of aging like under eye hollows, mid face/cheek decent and chin recession. Correction of your slate facial volume loss can be done with Voluma which will last two years. I would not advise using fat which can give it a regular lumps or bumps's or asymmetries of the face.

Great question. I have seen terrific results using Juvederm Voluma. This product is especially designed to restore volume back to your cheek bone area. By simply "inflating" that area, your entire look changes, giving you more pronounced cheekbones, resulting in a refreshed, youthful appearance. Find someone who specializes in the face and experienced with injectables.

Thank you for your question. There are several options to add volume to the face. I recommend discussing all possible options with your surgeon. Fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane, Bellafill, Radiesse, and Sculptra, are all good options to add facial volume. Fat transfer or lipoaugmentation is also a good, more permanent option to treat facial volume loss.

Dear Bambi,   There are many options from hyaluronic based fillers such as Juvaderm, Restylane and many others, to longer lasting fillers such as Radiesse and Sculptra and permanent type fillers made of methylmethacrylate beads such as Artecoll.  You will have many different opinions and each doctor will give you the one that has best worked for him/her patients.  I have found that Radiesse is a safe and simple filler that lasts for 1-2 years.  The hyaluronic acid fillers are somewhat shorter.  All of these fillers are quite pricy making fat transfer a very attractive option for patients desiring a long lasting filler.  Fat is also very safe since it is your own tissue. There are several ways to restore facial volume.The easiest, most precise and safest is to use temporary fillers. Of all the fillers available on the market I prefer using Radiesse  for a facial volume restoration.It is a long-lasting filler that in my opinion offers much better value in comparison to voluma for example. Fat grafting or fat transfer as another option.It is a permanent solution though in my opinion not nearly as precise and predictable. One of the major advantages of using temporary filler's is getting an assessment of how you perceive the outcome.It will also give you an idea of the talent of the provider.This is a good way to judge the outcome before embarking on something more permanent.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
