Answer: Improving Smile Lines and Chin Liners with Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, and Revanesse Versa Yes, Botox, Xeomin, or Dysport are effective treatments for patients seeking treatment to eliminate deep dimples or creases that develop on the front area of the chin. This condition is called crêping, but is most commonly referred to as an “orange peel” or “golf ball” or “cobblestone chin” and is generally caused by repeated contractions of the mentalis (chin muscle), which can create thin or cross-hatched lines across the surface of the chin. A very small amount of injections are a very effective way to relax the mentalis muscle, temporarily softening the appearance of the ‘pebbly’ look. The frequency of the injections can even be reduced over time while retaining the same quality results.Another treatment that gives amazing results is Revanesse Versa with minimal downtime and much less pain or swelling compared to other fillers. Patients report satisfaction in areas such as the smile lines (nasolabial folds), lips, under eyes, cheeks, nose, chin, and jawline.Versa delivers rejuvenating effects that are subtle and natural, which many patients are seeking these days. It's an extremely versatile treatment and has a better price point than the majority of fillers. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Botox for smile lines: a plastic surgeon's perspective Botox Cosmetic (onabotulinum toxin A) is a prescription injection that is FDA approved for the treatment of forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow's feet. It acts to paralyze the muscles in these locations thereby preventing movement that causes active wrinkle formation. Treatment of areas other than the forehead, between the eyes, and crows feet would be considered "off label." This means use in other areas is at the discretion of your provider and yourself and is not "approved by the FDA." Your Botox treatment should be based on a personalized assessment of your individual and unique anatomy, and may include an evaluation of the perioral areas. A small amount of hyaluronic acid filler may be a better option, if ANYTHING. I think you have a beautiful smile as is so just be careful what and who you let inject you in those areas. Not trying to scare you, but you don't want to not be able to smile, talk, or end up drooling for 3 months.
