Does Botox completely leave the body?

Question

I am three weeks post-injection for neck pain and spasms. I now have a droopy neck, am in a neck collar, and have balance problems. I am terrified of permanent and lasting damage to my neck muscles and balance ! Please provide some reassurance ! Am now having panic attacks.....must work as am a teacher ! Any advice so appreciated.

Dear Judi1teacher,Botox is generally an on off switch for muscle activity. I get a fair amount of actors/actresses in my practice that are looking to reduce wrinkles but keep some expression. Finding an experienced physician injector is your best bet. Most of patients see first changes after 4-7 days and the final results after 10-14 days. It depends on the amount of Botox and area where it is injected but it usually last for 3-4 months.Daniel Barrett, MD

I'm sorry you are experiencing this after your Botox treatments. Botox is not permanent. Botox results resolve in 3-4 months. Hope this helps.

I can assure you as a physician who started injecting muscles for spasm and dystonia back in 1989 that Botox will wear off.I would expect your muscle to be relaxed for at least 4 months maybe a little longer and as the tone returns so will the tension under the skin. Currently its all relaxed.There is no need for panic, botox will wear off, the muscle will slowly return to initial strength, hopefully without spasm and you will be back to baseline.

Rest assured Botox will eventually clear out of your body. In the majority of individuals that takes 3 to 4 months but it can't take longer in others. You should be discussing all of these issues with your treating physician as they must be aware of what's going on. Good luck from New York City

Dear Judi1teacher, sorry to hear the problem that you are having with neck muscle weakness after Botox injections. The effect of Botox usually lasts for 3-4 months and after that your neck muscle strength comes back. Rest assured it is only temporary and no permanent damage will be there.
