Hi. It is hard to say what is best for you without at least seeing some photos. This can sometimes be treated with liposuction and or an elliptical incision in I order to remove skin as well. In some cases, when there is plenty excess tissue and skin, there is a possibility of combining the axilar y breast tissue removal with an arm lift or a breast lift. This way we can extend the scars making sure we remove the axilar y breast tissue and excess axilar y skin if necessary. With an extended arm lift, for example, the scars goes down the armpit in an S shape fashion making sure to get rid of the unwanted tissue. With a Breast Lift, the horizontal scar at the base of the breast is extended and then curved upwards towards the armpit.Best of luck,Dr. Miguel Mota
Hi, thank you for sharing your question. The optimal way to permanently remove this tissue is direct excision.
Hi iiaz2015,Thank you for your question. While it is difficult to give a definitive answer without pictures or a physical exam, my approach to removing accessory breast tissue in the axilla generally involves liposuction, direct excision, or a combination of both. Oftentimes we can use liposuction to debulk the soft tissue followed by excision of any additional hard glandular tissue through the small liposuction incision. If you have significant excess skin, you may also need a skin excision. Hope this helps!
Hi iiaz2015,For many women, the breast continues into the armpit region, without a distinct separation between the two. While this may be axillary breast tissue, it is equally likely to be extra subcutaneous tissue or fat.A breast reduction is typically performed in the face up position, allowing your surgeon access to everything under the armpit that can be reached with you lying flat on your back. An alternate strategy is to start a reduction in the facedown position, allowing a more extensive removal of the axillary and upper back fat, with the back scar leading to the scar underneath the breast from the reduction. The second paradigm, called the bra line lift, allows a 360 degree reshaping of the upper torso, as opposed to only operating on the breast. For insurance purposes, some insurances will cover breast reduction when certain criteria are met. Insurance will not cover the bra line lift extension.Hope this helps.Best,Christopher Pannucci MDBoard Certified Plastic SurgeonPlastic Surgery NorthwestSpokane, Washington
Excising this excess breast tissue and skin directly with an incision line in the axilla is the best approach.
Dear iiaz2015,it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
The tissue is still part of the breast gland so the best way to remove is by excision. Often it is necessary to add liposuction to help contour the area
Hi Iiaz,Sounds like you're already ahead of the game- most patients don't realize that this area is often not fat (to be removed via liposuction), but it is secondary breast tissue! There are a few considerations- for my massive weight loss patients who have a significant fold of skin in the axillary areas that extend all the way towards the back, an excision of this tissue is warranted (almost like an upper back lift). For those with a mild to moderate amount of axillary tissue, it can be accomplished by simply extending the anchor incision of the breast reduction out laterally. I wish you the best in your search for treatment!- Dr. Nik
The best way to remove axillary breast tissue, after confirming that it is actually breast tissue and not just fat, is direct excision. This is done through an incision hidden or mostly hidden in the armpit, depending on size and degree of excess skin. Also, depending on age, family history, and risk factors, the tissue may also need be sent for pathology since it is breast tissue. If the tissue is actually just fat, BodyTite with or without Morpheus8 is often effective. Have a visit with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss the method recommended for you.
Dear Iiaz2015, This is a great question and a frequent problem for women. Without seeing you, I will say that direct excision via breast reduction incision in the crease of the breast and possibly some accompanying liposuction to the axilla. It would be important to decipher whether it is in fact breast tissue or just adipose tissue. Either way, I see really nice results. Best Wishes!!
