27F. I’m 5’8 220ish and I’m consulting for a reduction in July and August with two different surgeons because I finally have an insurance policy that covers medically necessary reductions!! I’m working to lose a little more weight before my consult, but is it possible to reduce my size that much? I know insurance can get tricky with BMI / Schnur so I’m trying to manage my expectations of size / approval.
Answer: Bra sizes are not scientific Dear Mstoll, Congratulations on taking this step! Bra sizes are not scientific, so it's always hard to tell a patient what bra size they will be. As you may experience now, you can go to a store that will put you in a F cup and then another store will size you as a DDD!? There is no standard unit of measure. I say that because I don't want patients to get too caught up in bra sizes. When you meet with your surgeon, explain what your goals are and how you want to look and feel. He/she should be able to help you reach your goals irrespective of what the size on the bra tag ultimately says. I wish you the best of luck! - Dr. Nik

Answer: Breast reduction and size This is a great question. A breast reduction can dramatically reduce the size of your breasts. Depending on your height and weight, a certain amount of breast tissue by weight must be taken out to satisfy the insurance requirements for reimbursement. This is known as the Schnur scale.

Answer: Might be possible I recommend an in person consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss your goals and be measured. After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of women (my patients) with similar measurements. They also get to see what they would look like when the breasts have fully dropped and fluffed and in clothes. You get to see actual results and the surgeon's experience and not a virtual idea of what can be achieved. Women tell me that this process is very helpful in determining what is right for them. Answer: Reduction requirements The insurance mandated amount is based off your body surface area is 2.19m square, corresponding to a reduction requirement of 895gms from each breast. That is a lot and you have to be careful that you won't be left too small. I use a breast implant of about that size of the resection amount to give the patient an idea.

Answer: Breast Reduction from G to C? Great Question SwallowStardust! You should have no difficulty going from a G to C cup. The only thing to know is.......different women have different concepts of what a C cup looks like. And, of course, different manufacturers and styles accommodate different size breasts. Most useful is to bring your surgeon a "wish photo" of breast size you like on a similar frame woman. Attached below, a C cup result! Best of Luck Dr. Jim Romanelli

Answer: Cup size after breast reduction communicating in cup size is not very useful in either reduction surgery or augmentation. Measurements are not consistent throughout the garment industry. Maybe if you look at some before and after photos, and choose an after photo that fits your expectations, the plastic surgeon would have a better idea of the general look you'll are trying to achieve
