How long will hoarseness/pain from swallowing last after breast augmentation?

Had a breast augmentation on Friday using anesthesia and it's now Thursday and I have a hoarse voice still and pain swallowing. Is this normal? When will this get better? It's already been almost a week

A horse voice and painful swallowing six days after breast augmentation with general anesthesia is rare. A phone call and or visit with your plastic surgeon would be suggested so that he or she may discuss your symptoms with the anesthesiologist.

After general anesthesia it isn't uncommon to have some soreness of your throat especially in the first week  but you should call your plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question.  The discomfort and hoarseness is caused by pressure from the endotracheal tube  which was placed in your airway during surgery. This discomfort usually goes away in the first 48-72 hours.  If it is severe your surgeon can prescribe Xylocaine viscous as a gargle to help.

A sore throat and / or hoarseness is not uncommon following any surgical procedure under general anesthesia if an endotracheal tube is placed in your throat. It usually will subside within a week or two, but if it persists, you should speak with your surgeon about it.
