After 2 months of having my tummy tuck done my stitch spit up and made a whole, it Keep draining and 3 days ago I finally got to see the doctor and he put an Acid inside the little whole and It has been draining a mucus of color yellow, I am very scared but I don’t have fever, the area is not hot either, he says that he will stitch me back in two weeks if it doesn’t close, but if he put that acid inside what is for? I know I should ask him, he just told me it was gonna burnt and it did.

Dear flor1984,this type of wound problem is not uncommon after tummy tuck. I would suggest you to follow instructions provided by your plastic surgeon, and keep your wound clean and covered. It can take few weeks for wound to fully heal. Daniel Barrett, MD

Spitting sutures are not a long term problem.  The sutures used will dissolve and eventually go away.  With time and wound care the hole should close up completely.

It is very common to have internal sutures "spit". every surgeon experiences this. Ideally the sutures dissolve but often they will spit out. When this happens they drain a bit of yellow fluid that many patients mistake for an infection, when in fact it is sterile. I have my patients just clean this area with half strength hydrogen peroxide and a thin coat of antibiotic cream 2-3 times per day. It will resolve. You don't need to suture the hole closed. It will close on its own. david berman md
