I had a deviated septum and a large hump on my nose. Before the surgery (3 months ago, July 3rd) I was told that he would just take the hump away and make everything else look very natural. I look at myself and feel like I don't look natural at all. I was supposed to feel more confident but all I want to do now is hide my face. Is the crookedness and nostril flaring because of swelling? I never had nasal flaring or crookedness this bad. I feel like when I smile it shifts to one side. Ugh.
Answer: Postop edema All the findings are likely related to swelling at this time. Typically in 3 months the swelling has subsided in most patients but some might take a lot longer. Give it a few more months. Remember any issues that do not get resolved like nostril flaring can be fixed with procedures like alarplasty. So do not lose hope, instead focus on positive for now and revisit the situation in 3 months from now. Exercise, eat healthy, meditate and stay positive. RegardsDr. J

Answer: Nasal asymmetry three months postoperative rhinoplasty surgery may be due to swelling. Since you appear to have relatively thick nasal skin, swelling may persist for a longer period of time. You should feel free to address your concerns with your surgeon. If you require peace of mind, consider getting a second opinion from another rhinoplasty specialist. If you decide to go that route, bring a copy of your operative report in preop for the photos. Hope this helps and wishing you well. Dr. Joseph.

Answer: Crooked nose? You have legitimate questions and concerns. I have studied your pictures. Unfortunately, it's too early as you have said. It can take up to a year for all the swelling to resolve. Hopefully, there are positive changes in your nose that you like - so that overall you feel improved. See your doctor regularly and be as patient as possible. Some people will need revision surgery, but it's way to early to tell. Overall, you look like you have a pretty nose postoperative! Hope this helps! Dr Chris Saunders

Answer: Swelling after Rhinoplasty Thank you for your question. With any nasal surgery, the name of the game is patience. At one week, we would expect you to have quite a bit of swelling and bruising still noticeable and may have trouble breathing out of one or both nostrils. By the end of two weeks, typically, you will still be swollen but look more like you have a bad cold, rather than post surgical. Swelling can take up to a year to be completely gone, however, by 9 weeks you will look very good and should see big difference from your pre-op pics.

Answer: My nostrils flare out and my nose appears to be crooked after septorhinoplasty. Is this normal because of swelling? Frontal preoperative photo is needed to compare the result. However, I notice there is asymmetry of nasal alae or nostrils with right side less developed and thinner than the left. I have come across several such pronounced asymmetry of the nostrils which congenital on origin meaning patients were born with it. Rhinoplasty will exaggerate this since other problems are gone. We have reduced and thinned out the opposite ala to achieve some symmetry. Best
