Thank you for your question. What I recommend you is to follow all your plastic surgeon post op advise.Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
Hi, every surgeon has his/her own set of post-operative guidelines and you should follow your surgeon's guidelines carefully in order to ensure a speedy and full recovery and for best results. We stress this point because your surgeon will know your particular case best. That said, typically it is recommended that you avoid putting pressure on the affected area for two weeks. You can lie down on your back, but you should not sit. If you absolutely need to sit you should limit sitting to about 30 minutes or so. If you have any questions or concerns about your post-operative recovery guidelines please be sure to consult with your surgeon.
Hello and thank you for your question. Different surgeons have different opinions about BBL post op care and you should follow the advice of your board-certified plastic surgeon. I would allow my patients to sit on a soft pillow and tell them to avoid prolonged sitting. Best,Pejman Aflaki, M.D. Johns Hopkins-trained double board-certified plastic surgeon
Always ask your surgeon as this will depend upon surgeon preference and the specifics of your surgery. In addition, I tell my BBL patients to minimize sitting. If they have to sit, it is critical that every 30 minutes or an hour that patients get up and stand for a few seconds to take the pressure off. This reduces the chance for fat necrosis. After 6 weeks the fat has revascularized, and you have a very good idea of your final results.
Dear aokayyy,I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. Fat viability depends a lot of surgeon technique. The fat has to be placed back into the buttocks as soon as possible so that it has a greater chance of survival. It has to be placed carefully so that not too much fat is placed in only one areaDaniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Every surgeon has different recommendations for what they want you to do post op. I ask my patines to stay off of the butt and hips for 10 days post op. This means no laying or sitting on the buttocks. I do allow my patients to "sit" using a special pillow (i.e. Booty Buddy).
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question and provided information as well. Each doctor has their own protocol It is very important that you talk to him about your concerns and goals. I recommend my patients not to sit for more than 30 mins. every two hours, for the first 2 weeks, and always with the help of a boppy pillow. If you have any concerns, I suggest you to follow up close with your plastic surgeon.Hope this is helpful. Good luck :)
Different surgeons have different protocols. You should specifically follow the recommendations of your provider Regardless of what other providers may say on real self.In our practice we recommend patients minimize excessive movement and pressure for the first 2 to 3 weeks. In reality most of the fat is not grafted over the pressure points where we sit. We give our patients special pillows to sit on that emphasizes the pressure more on the back of the thigh’s unless on the buttocks. If maintaining volume in the hip dip area is important then avoiding sleeping on the side is probably something to take into consideration. From my perspective I am most concerned between day two and day nine which is when the in the growth of capillaries happen to the grafted tissue which allows the grafted fat to maintain viability long-term. This process is called neovascularization. It two weeks this process should be stabilized and any fat that is alive at that point will be stable while fat that has not established a new blood supply will be dead and in the process of being reabsorbed. We don’t have a good scientific evidence if sitting after a BBL makes a big difference but most plastic surgeons Follow basic Tissue grafting principles which generally states to avoid excessive pressure and immobilization for several weeks. The technique used for grafting, candidacy of the patient, experience and skill of the surgeon are probably more important than if the patient sets or not after but it makes sense to do everything you can to maximize your outcome since this is generally a lifetime change.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
