Thank you for your question. You maybe a candidate. Since you have kidney disease you would need to get a clearance from your nephrologist for surgery.
If you are otherwise healthy with a BMI approaching 30, you might be a candidate for lipo with medical clearance from your transplant surgeon and nephrologist. Without knowing the current kidney function and medical assessment, an informed response cannot be offered.
Dear nmcmath03,you will need to get a clearance from your doctor prior to surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question and provided information as well. Please talk to your nephrologist to get clearance for plastic surgery and then I suggest you to book a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss the best options for your goals.Hope this is helpful. Good luck :)
You would need to consult with your specialist first. After being cleared the next step is consulting a board certified plastic surgeon. A Skype or FaceTime consultation with a specialist can help you get an accurate recommendation and pricing. Respectfully, Arian Mowlavi MD, FACSRealself 100 Hall of Fame Inductee
The answer is maybe. A lot depends on the view of your nephrologist. There are two risks that come to mind. One is your immunosuppression and the other is potentially stressing your one Kidney. If your transplant has been stable for many years and kidney function is perfect as well as being a low-dose immunosuppressive then your nephrologist may be comfortable. It’s really not up to the plastic surgeon but rather the person who is responsible for the well-being of your transplanted kidney. Some may feel that no risk for aesthetic outcomes justifies risking the kidney regardless how small while others will have a more moderate approach.some of this may also depend on the extent of liposuction. For example having chin liposuction is probably less of a risk in having a dental cleaning.I do all liposuction procedures in the office with my patients awake using local anesthesia with mild sedation as needed. The stress or impact from this procedure is fairly minimal and complications are usually rare.I suggest talking directly to your nephrologist or whoever manages your kidney and immunosuppressive. If they give you preliminary clearance and have a few in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeon will have extensive experience with liposuction. The amount of risk that seems reasonable to take should also be balanced with a potential benefit. If someone is not a particularly good candidate for liposuction and taking risk doesn’t make much sense. If the procedure can potentially have a significant positive impact on someone’s life and taking some risk may be more justified.Liposuction results vary greatly among different providers. Please choose carefully.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
