In the current American prospective study looking at SSBI (no longer referred to as BII as it doesn't fulfill the criteria of a true pathophysiologic illness), the enrollees in the affected group were more likely to have saline implants. More importantly though, there are three findings that stand out. First, although most patients felt improvement or resolution to some or all symptoms, it did not matter if all the scar capsule was removed in one piece, in multiple pieces, or if part of the capsule was left in the patient. This is an indirect indicator that the capsule does not harbor toxic substances. Second, capsule tissue (or breast tissue taken from women in the control group that did not have implants but were getting a breast lift) and blood were analyzed for 20 various heavy metals, silicone, bacteria, and endotoxins produced by bacteria. There was no difference seen between the symptomatic group, the non-symptomatic implant group, or the control group that did not have implants. Finally, the only statistically significant differences between the groups were seen in the intake questionnaires by enrollees. It was found that those with symptoms from their implants were more likely to identify as suffering from anxiety or health anxiety, and that they prefer to get medical information online than from a doctor. As for the implants themselves, silicone gel implants are much more natural than saline. Go get your implants and stop worrying about systemic symptoms.
