64 & in good health - is a FL, NL, fat transfer & laser too much at once?

I routinely do face and neck lifts with or without fat transfer at the same time as CO2 laser. It can be done safely by experienced surgeons. If your surgeon feels comfortable doing all the procedures at the same time I wouldn't be concerned. Preservation Deep plane lifts help as there is less skin elevation during these procedures. Also it is well known that combining many facial procedures at once will increase facial swelling, which will in turn, increase surgical complications.
Excessive facial swelling also decreases effectiveness and precision of the combined procedure.

It is a surgeon's individual preference to do multiple procedures at the same time or not. Surgeons do it to help the patient get everything done at once so there is only one healing period and you don't have to go through multiple procedures. However, the risk of complications increases with multiple procedures. Some highly experienced surgeons can accomplish all of these safely but make sure to discuss these issues in detail with your surgeon.

Thank you for your query. I often do non-ablative CO2 laser resurfacing at the same time as FaceLift, neck lift and Facial fat transfer. Ablative lasers are, however, better delayed . Hi, AJFA.I would say this is a very common combination of procedures to undergo together. The face ages in many different ways: the skin develops fine lines and wrinkles, there is fat loss that occurs in the face and skin laxity and sagging. The laser resurfacing treats the fines lines, the fat transfer restores the volume and the facelift restores the youthful contours. If you are in good health there should be no concerns with doing these together. I have performed this exact combination of procedures (and more including eyelid surgery) on patients in their 70's without a problem. I perform these under twilight sedation with an anesthesiologist so it is a much easier surgery and recovery process.

Hello and thank you for your question! Multiple procedures in one day are very common in my practice and very safe as long as the surgery duration is not too long and we have a healthy patient. The main risk is having anesthesia for a prolonged period of time, so your surgeon should be comfortable performing these procedures in a reasonable amount of time. Being able to perform multiple procedures along with a facelift comes with experience so you should find a surgeon that focuses exclusively on facial rejuvenation procedures. That being said, the procedures that you are talking about are not adding significant amounts of time. Laser resurfacing and fat grafting should not add a considerable amount of surgical time. The best part about having all these at once is that you only have one recovery time and these additional procedures will not prolong your recovery. You have not shown pictures of yourself, but I do love this combination that you are discussing. I feel that laser resurfacing could be performed in almost all patients getting a facelift since it has such dramatic results and very few risks with modern techniques. Fat grafting is also a wonderful addition to add volume to areas that are deficient such as the temples, cheeks, and lips. Alternatively, you could separate these procedures and there would be nothing wrong with that other than several recovery periods and possibly added expense (depending on the facility). Occasionally there are surgeons who do not have access to laser resurfacing technology in their surgery centers and therefore are unable to do it on the same day as surgery. I would consult with several surgeons and get multiple opinions before deciding who you are comfortable with. I hope this helps and good luck with your decision!

Many surgeons do those as combined procedures. I’m not a fan of fat injection. I think it’s a waste of money. Laser will make your recovery a bit tougher and longer

First of all congratulations for finding a surgeon who is taking a comprehensive approach to your facial rejuvenation. In my practice, I stage the CO2 laser because I am resurfacing the full face and I think it’s safer for the skin.
If the laser is limited to the areas of the face where the skin is not elevated / there is minimal dissection then it is likely safe. I recommend having a discussion with your surgeon to hear their rationale.

If your surgeon is quite experienced with comprehensive facial rejuvenation, I have no problem doing all of the procedures at the same time. I would, however, recommend the erbium laser over the CO2 laser. Studies have shown that the risk of complications and length of recovery is much better with the erbium laser over the CO2 yet the wrinkle reduction is the same. Something to consider.
