Hi Angel. Your case actually looks quite typical for after IP:L treatment. We refer to a "coffee grinds" appearance where the skin becomes darkened, bumpy or flaky after treatment. We would suggest you follow up with your provider, but it looks quite typical to our results.
It looks like you have the typical "coffee ground" appearance after IPL in your photos. Those should fall off in a few days don't pick them off no matter how tempting. However, since you are of a darker skin tone. I would follow up with you physician just to be sure it doesn't look different in person. You doctor might want to start you on a hydroquinone or retinA to prevent post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Hope that helps. Good luck!
Hello, It is hard to fully assess your treatment without seeing you in person. It is always a suggestion to go to the office that you got your treatment. The coffee grind look is normal, and the pigment is going to be more prominent in the area that had more pigmentation that not even the naked eye can see. Best wishes to you.
I know it's not pretty, but a brown, bumpy appearance to your skin is common following IPL treatments. These spots should flake away on their own over the next week or so. Don't pick or scratch at them, as this could cause scarring. If you have any additional concerns, be sure you follow up with your treatment provider.
Thank you for your question and for sharing yourphotographs angelosk. I understand your concern. An IPL photofacial is anoutstanding treatment for facial rejuvenation. It works by using bright lightto target and destroy pigment and redness in the skin. It is difficult to make an assessment without aformal exam in the office where I can directly view the skin. However, I hopethe information provided here is useful.I provide the following aftercare instructions to my patients, which includes a discussion of darkening of the skin after a treatment:After an IPL photofacial treatment please avoidheat exposure, alcohol consumption, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Heatrefers to going out in the hot sun, if it were to be hot outdoors; but also anyhot environments indoors such as a hot bath, sauna, or steam room. Also avoidhot or spicy foods or drinks for 24 hours after the treatment because all ofthese things can bring blood to the skin, which can lead to side effects suchas redness, blisters, or discolorations. Please avoid makeup for a few hoursafter the treatment because the skin may be sensitive. The skin may be red orswollen for a few days after the treatment. This is normal. Please feel free toapply cold compresses such as ice packs to keep the skin comfortable, ifnecessary. Sometimes dark spots may get darker before they get lighter.Sometimes they flake off the surface and sometimes they are absorbed by theskin depending on the depth of the pigment in the skin. This could take upto two weeks. Patience is important. Prolonged discoloration beyond that may betreated with creams. Please apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher with broadspectrum protection every day if the treated area is not covered by clothingand reapply every one to two hours if outdoors for prolonged periods. Rememberthat driving in a car exposes the skin to the sun through the windows. Mostpatients start with an initial series of six monthly treatments followed by onemaintenance treatment every three months thereafter. Please consult with a doctor for specificrecommendations. Good luck!
Hello Angelosk,Looks, so far so good. Looks like an even treatment where the targeted darker pigmented skin was heated to the desired degree and will slough off in a week or so. Don't pick or scratch them. If you start to see areas of darker pigmentation that were not there prior, get back to your provider so it can be addressed as soon as possible.Hope you are soon enjoying your new skin!Warmly,Arbella Sarkis, MD
Actually, that looks great. When the sun damage darkens up like that - it usually means you will significant improvement. And remember, we recommend 3 treatments for best results and avoid direct sun exposure the next 2 weeks.Ken Oleszek, MDLa Fontaine AestheticsDenver, Colorado
The picture you have provided of the specks is perfectly normal after a few days from an IPL treatment. IPL, when done correctly, with melanin (color) within the skin will darken and flake off in a short period of time. Do not pick or peel at the areas, they will slough off on their own in a couple of days.
I see darkening of the pigmented areas on the face that were treated. This coffee ground looking change is normal after IPL for pigmented lesions. This should go away in a week. I cannot comment on the jaw area. Perhaps better pics may help.
