IPL treatment while getting chemotherapy, is it safe to do?

I was diagnosed with a brain tumor this year. Resection was done in march on frontal lobe. Had radiation for 6 weeks done in June I am still going thru chemo 5/23 Temodar. Is it safe to do IPL now. I got many treatments in the past 4 years. Always good results. I want treatment on my face. Thanks

In addition to Dr. Emer's recommendations, another option is hydroquinone cream and can applied topically. Avoid sun, sunlamps, and tanning beds. Use sunscreen and wear clothing and eyewear that protects you from the sun. An in person evaluation with a dermatologist would be ideal.

IPL can be used to treat the small little blood vessels on the face and it would not affect the migraines. We do provide laser protective wear and also can close your eyes to add additional protection to avoid stimulations that can trigger the migraines.

I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care. Laser results can take several weeks to settle. I recommend Silagen + Bioshield to promote healing combined with lasers (VBeam, ProYellow, Excel V) and microneedling/prp. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi Thanks for your question. Taking Zoloft should not affect your IPL treatments but you will need to make sure you protect your skin with a physical sunscreen before and definitely after IPL treatments.
