IPL on hypertrophic scar: is it normal to look so red and feel hard after treatment? (Photos)

Question

6 days ago I had IPL on my hypertrophic scar, it sort of started to flake off just now, however I'm really worried as my scar looks more red than it used to be and I also feel that it's harder. Please advise whether this is a normal result after 6 days or not.

I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care. Laser results can take several weeks to settle. I recommend Silagen + Bioshield to promote healing combined with lasers (VBeam, ProYellow, Excel V) and microneedling/prp. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Dear dolly789,

IPL can help with red scar marks. It is not usually a treatment for hypertrophic scars. What can help with hypertrophic scars is an intralesional injection. This is a steroid injection that helps with flattening, fading, and decreases hypertrophic scars. In the mean time your healing from your IPL treatment be sure to wash it gently daily, avoid direct sun exposure, and use Aquaphor. I hope you heal well. Good Luck!

outstanding treatment for facial rejuvenation. It works by using bright light
to target and destroy pigment and redness in the skin. It is difficult to make an assessment without a
formal exam in the office where I can directly view the skin. However, I hope
the information provided here is useful.IPL can be used to treat pigment associated with a hypertrophic scar. After a treatment the area may be red or darker. However one should not have an open wound. It would be appropriate to follow up with your doctor for specific recommendations on wound care.Please consult with a doctor for specific
