There is very little if any scientific data that would support claims that vitamins and supplements improve healing or decrease bruising and swelling after surgery for an average patient. Any patient that has a deficiency in either a vitamin set or protein level certainly will benefit by augmenting their diet with the appropriate supplement. Ideally, electrolyte, protein, and vitamin levels should be within the normal ranges before surgery starts. These would include substances like vit C, thiamine, albumin, zinc, etc. But most patients are not malnourished and are not deficient in these substances. Taking additional amounts of them really does not improve the healing process. That being said, you should be safe to try the supplements mentioned above either before or immediately after surgery without any risk, but probably without any benefit either.
