Is combining a tummy tuck with a bilateral salpingectomy an option? Would I be better off continuing in different sessions?

Yes, it is possible to do these procedures at the same time. In order to be a candidate for this, you would have to be in excellent health and have no other contraindications for combo procedures. You will need to talk to both your plastic surgeon and gynecologist to cover all the bases and make sure that this is acceptable to both. Best of luck!

Yes, I commonly perform tummy tucks at the same time as elective gynecologic surgeries and/or hernia repairs in conjunction with my OBGYN and/or general surgery colleagues. This allows the patient to have one surgery and one recovery.

In my experience, I have coordinated a tummy tuck procedure with another surgeon to complete surgery on various parts of the female reproductive system.

You would need to check with your surgeon to see this is a possibility with him or her as well as the other surgeon.

If both surgeons agree to the combined procedure, then it can be done. The gynecologist would go first. If the gynecologist does the removal through the scope and uses a lot of gas to blow up the abdomen, your plastic surgeon may chose to wait. Just discuss this with both surgeons.

Combining procedures is common and considered safe, but there are certain criteria that must be met. You will need to be in good health and a good candidate for the procedures you are considering. You will need to have your plastic surgeon and your OB/Gyn coordinate schedules and facilities in order to successfully have these all performed at the same time. You could also elect to stage them. Often times the ventral hernia can be addressed along with the tummy tuck. Seek a double board certified plastic surgeon for this.

With the exception of the ovarian tube removal everything you describe is actually more or less included in a tummy tuck.
The belly button is always repositioned during a full tummy tuck so including an umbilical plasty is kind of redundant. likewise the muscling tightening part of the procedure typically by itself correct ventral hernia so technically the ventral hernia repair is redundant as well. There are circumstances and occasions where the degree of herniation is significant enough that standard tummy tuck muscle tightening is insufficient and the surgeon may opt to add a layer of mesh or alter the procedure some other way. liposuction in one way or another is almost always included with a tummy tuck whether it’s to give a little midline a definition or reduce the love handles.
The biggest challenge is most likely going to be scheduling getting your gynecologist and a plastic surgeon to operate at the same time.
Typically GYN procedures are done laparoscopically but during a tummy tuck the gynecologist will have access to doing it as an open procedure without adding any level of invasiveness.
When I’ve done combined tummy tuck GYN procedures I typically start by opening the abdomen as I would for a tummy tuck and once the entire abdominal wall is exposed the gynecologist come in and do their procedures as open surgery. I then close their incision as the muscle tightening part of the procedure and finish the surgery.
One of the biggest advantages to combining insurance based surgery in conjunction with a full tummy tuck is the ability to get medical insurance to cover an overnight stay at the hospital or surgery center.
Typically paying cash to stay overnight for one or two nights in a hospital is prohibitively expensive but if covered by another surgical procedure patients get the benefit of getting extra care which is extremely helpful for the first one or two nights after a tummy tuck.
It will require that both doctors have privileges at the same facility and most likely one of them is going to have to alter their operating schedule unless they coincidently operate on the same day.
Combining procedures is generally considered to be an advantage for the patient and generally most providers will try to accommodate the best they can.
It requires coordination and cooperation.
Start the process by talking to both providers and make sure the two of them communicate separately.
Conceivably there could be a general surgeon involved if you’re having a ventral hernia repair it. Some plastic surgeons feel very comfortable and have privileges doing hernia repairs while others ask general surgeons to do it.
Like I mentioned earlier doing muscle tightening basically correct a ventral hernia.
Talk to each of the providers involved and see what they have to say and try to coordinate.
Sometimes in order to get a combined procedure a patient may need to turn to a different provider simply based on where providers have operating room privileges.
It’s probably better to do this as a combined procedure but IF NOT I recommend doing it the GYN procedure before having a full tummy tuck.
