41 years old, 135 pounds, After 3 vials of Voluma to cheeks not difference after 6 months, it doesn't last , any other option?

I'm 41 years old with some fat lost on face. Decided to add volume with Voluma. I went to a reputable plastic surgeon with great reviews, so can't blame the Dr. He injected 3 cc, with couple months apart. Six months later, I look the same than before treatment, it seems not lasting enough. What other options are there for me?

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry that your results have not been what you anticipated.  If your body quickly metabolizes hyaluronic acid fillers like Voluma, I would try a filler with different composition like Bellafill, Sculptra, or Radiesse.  These are semi-permanent implants that stimulate your own tissues to thicken.  Hope this helps.

Hi and thank you for your question! While it is possible that fillers do not last as long as expected, I highly recommend that you do a follow up with your doctor and ask for comparison of pictures taken before the fillers and now. Since changes occur gradually and we look at our face many times a day, it is possible that the improvements are not clearly visible now, but if you put the pictures side by side, it would be easier to spot the improvements. Another issue is that even if the results are not clearly visible, the treatments weren't necessarily a waste as the fillers most likely replenished some deep volume loss and they will help with the results of future fillers. It's like a pool that it is too empty and it might just take a bit more water to fill it up. If you are looking for other options that might last long, Sculptra could be an option but since it's a stimulatory filler that doesn't add any volume per se and it takes a while for the body to make the collagen around it, you must be patient. Bellafill is also an option to consider. Please don't give up hope! I hope it helps and good luck!

Cheeks can also be augmented with Radiesse, Bellafill and Sculptra. Fat or implants are alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hello,Thank you for your question. If Voluma isn't lasting you may consider Sculptra. It adds volume and lasts about 2 years once you reach complete correction. Discuss this option with your physician to determine if this is the right treatment for you. Good luck!

I think the first option would be to see your physician and see if there are before/after pictures. Often I find that when patients come in for serial treatments, it becomes more difficult to see progress. If the pictures are the same, then I would either try a different filler or perhaps explore fat grafting, implants, etc.

Sorry Alluska. You are not my patient and I do not know your doctorYour sad story is not unique. It is why so many question the expense of 3 cc of a product which is gone, as you say in your case, 6 months later. Had you invested the same amount of money in fat grafting, you would have had a good chance to have a different outcome.We have and continue to learn a great deal regarding fat cells, stem cells, and the addition of PRP to the face. There is much more to learn. We will do so. The results are encouraging.
