had voluma injected in hands almost 2 weeks ago. i had terrible swelling and heat in my hands. after almost a week doctor put me on 6 day steroid. it helped a little, but i still had a lot of swelling. yesterday i had her remove the filler. still some swelling and itching. i had voluma injected in my cheeks 7 months ago with a different doctor and had no problems.
Answer: Voluma in hands If you had Voluma in your cheeks with no reaction, it probably isn't that you're allergic to it, but had a localized reaction to the filler. The skin of the hands is much thinner than the face, which makes the choice of filler more important, and Voluma is not my first choice in that area. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm, Restylane and also a non hyaluronic acid filler, Radiesse are all better choices in that area, combined with laser treatments for tightening and improvement of brown spots.Best of luck.Dr G

Answer: Unhappy with Voluma for Hand Rejuvenation-- Fat Injections/PRP, Radiesse/Belotero, Fraxel This is difficult to answer without an in-person evaluation. An allergy to Voluma is extremely rare. The fact that you successfully had Voluma in the cheeks indicates you don't have an allergy. Keep in mind, it can take a series of treatments with hyaluronidase. Hands can be improved with fillers very easily, and I love combining this with fraxel laser to tighten and improve texture. Belotero and Radiesse give natural looking results. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Reaction to Voluma If you were really allergic to Voluma, I would expect the filler in your cheeks to get swollen at the same time as the filler in your hands. If you are thinking about trying the filler again, I would recommend having your doctor place a very small amount of Voluma (0.1cc or less) in an easily dissolved location as a test. If it swells the same way then you are obviously allergic. If not, you are probably not allergic and just had a localized reaction to the injection in your hands.

Answer: Could I have become allergic to Voluma? Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your hand issues after Voluma. Without photographs or an in-person examination it is difficult to offer definite advice as an infection is the worst case scenario while some swelling is anticipated, especially in the thinner skin of the back of the hands. Voluma does take more hyaluronidase to dissolve than most HA fillers so return to your injector and have continued treatments until the product has been fully dissolved. Best wishes.

Answer: Allergic to voluma Yes it rare to become allergic to a product, but it sounds like with the prolonged swelling and itching you may have developed an allergy. The next time for any voluma or any hyaluronic acid product you inject I would have the doctor do a skin test on your forearm to see if you have any sort of reaction before it is applied onto your face.
