I wanted cheek fillers but instead I got Dysport in my platysma bands. Why? (photos)

Dysport in the platysmal bands will have no effect on the cheeks however there may be a mild tightening effect in the jowel area with softening of the downward pull of the lower face muscles. Treatment of platysmal bands will have no effect on your cheeks. Your situation underscores the importance of communication between patient and provider with a clear discussion of concerns, goals, and ways to achieve them. Without knowing the details of your experience, I don't know how the discussion went from your cheeks to your platysmal bands. In general, my approach is to educate patients on the anatomy and physiology behind their concerns and which treatments I recommend to address them and how they do so. No, Dysport to platysma bands will not improve your cheek volume. Volume and contouring of the cheeks can be created with well-placed fillers (Voluma, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra. It's hard to understand why you would ask for cheek fillers and instead have Dysport to the platysmal bands recommended. One has no effect on the other. Platysmal bands have an effect on your neck, not your cheeks.

Dysport into the neck bands will not help to replace volume. So if you are after fuller cheeks then you would need to have dermal fillers. Although preventing ageing in the neck is one of the wisest things to do, it will not add volume to your cheeks.

Injections of Botox or Dysport into the neck bands will result in a smother looking neck if you have prominent banding to begin with. Neck injections do nothing for the cheeks.I will take a blind stab at what your injector meant, I believe that in their opinion the neck bands were more noticeable and detracted from your appearance more that a flattened cheek.That is a problem in aesthetics, Its important to have the patient guide the injector as to what bothers them. I always use a story that occurred in my office 10 years ago. A gentleman came in for fillers, he had a crease from his ear to his mandible and I was thinking how would I go about treating that crease. However he was not coming for the crease but for a small indentation by his chin.
