Can you have Ultherapy done after receiving fillers?

Question

Can you have ultherapy done after receiving fillers? I heard you have to wait a few months as the heat could melt the fillers? I was thinking about having ultherapy on my chin and neck would this still damage the fillers?

An Ultherapy treatment will not affect the longevity of your dermal filler. In my experience, a combination of Ultherapy and dermal fillers offers great results.  Consult
with your doctor before scheduling any treatment.

If you currently have fillers you can still have the Ultherapy treatment done without any effect on the fillers or their longevity. The combination of Ultherapy with fillers will be complementary and look great.

Fillers and ultherapy can be done on the same day however most people will wait 2 or so weeks to ensure swelling from each procedure doesn't interfere with the other.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Ultherapy can be done after fillers, but it is best to wait a period of time in between treatments.  Fillers could be done immediately after Ultherapy, but I would recommend waiting at least a month before doing fillers after Ultherapy.  If you would be having the Ultherapy on your chin and neck and no fillers were used in those areas, it would be fine to have the Ultherapy any time.

You can have fillers prior to Ultherapy andthere are no safety issues to having this, however, it will dissolve or break down your fillers so you would need them redone.

If the fillers and Ultherapy are performed on different
areas of the face, no wait time is required. If Ultherapy is performed over an area that received filler, we
typically have patients wait 1 month. It
is possible that the ultrasound energy can melt fillers, but if regular
settings and technique are used, it is unlikely that it would be clinically
noticeable.

Hi and thank you for your question!If we have the option to plan out a treatment schedule for a patient, we recommend Ultherapy first, followed by fillers. However, there is no data to support that fillers are melted or broken down by Ultherapy. Often Ultherapy is done on the lower face and neck, where fillers aren't often done anyways. If a patient has had fillers recently, we recommend waiting a month, if we are doing Ultherapy in the same area. Thank you, Dr. Grant Stevens

Thanks for your question. It is very important because it comes up all the time. In my opinion the best results are when ultherapy and fillers and used synergistically to enhance results, but this does not mean necessarily using them at the same time. Typically it is best to have ultherapy first, wait at least 3 months and then treat with fillers. This gives the advantage of having some tightening and lifting which often means using less filler and having it make more of an impact. That being said if the ulthera is not being performed in an area in which you are having fillers placed, then you can absolutely do them at the same time and I often encourage doing so. I typically use plenty of patient comfort measures for ulthera including relaxing medications and local anesthetic blocks. If you are already comfortable, relaxed and numb its usually a pretty good time to get as much done as you can during that session. I don't recommend treating an area with ulthera that was recently treated with fillers especially a non HA filler. I don't think anyone has enough experience or data to say what could potentially happen to a synthetic permanent filler such as silicone, collagen or sculptra that was placed around the time of the ultherapy. You can have Ultherapy treatment after receiving derma fillers. However,  It will more than likely decrease the effect of the fillers. It may be more effective to wait about six months following the Ulthera treatment.Best of luck
