When can I go island hopping and surfing after rhinoplasty?

I am planning to get a rhinoplasty when I visit my home country. I’m plannibg to get it 2 days after I land, so i can allot some time to heal. My friends and I are plannibg to island hop and go surfing alittle over 2 months after my rhino. (If i go through) I just have many plans when I get home so I’m kinda torned wether to continue or not. Do you think 2 months is fine? Thank you!!

As far as I can understand from your question after rhinoplasty operation, we recommend that you stay away from these sports for at least 6 months, you should definitely stay away from the sun and heavy sports.

2 months is a decent healing time. However, any activities/sports that can end up in facial injuries is a risk, with or without surgery. Even if you did not have surgery, if you go surfing there is a risk of facial trauma from the board. You may find that you don't want to risk injuring your nose and skip some activities with your friends. That being said, being 2 months post-op should not keep you from being able to do fun things. There is nothing wrong with island hopping and enjoying life after surgery, you may just end up being more cautious.

I recommend my patients to wait at least 3 months to start any activity such as working out or playing sports. Healing process is very important. Therefore, I recommend you to wait at least 3 months before doing anything vigorous. In some cases it takes 12 months for nose to completely settle. Please protect your nose until your healing process is completed

Assuming you have an uneventful recovery, 2 months should be fine to allow for your planned surfing vacation. That being said, sustaining trauma to your nose while surfing would be less than ideal, likely extending the period of time for swelling to improve and potentially compromising your outcome. I usually recommend my patients do not fly for 10-14 days and avoid working out (including surfing) during this time. This is when the nose is the most swollen and also the postoperative period where someone is at the most risk for complications (including bleeding from the nose). At 2 months out you should be fine to return to all normal activity, however you will want to avoid the sun (wear a hat and sunscreen) and avoid getting hit in the nose by an unruly surfboard.

In our rhinoplasty practice, we ask patients to refrain from any heavy exercise for the first two weeks, and no contact sports for four weeks. It's acceptable to go traveling at two weeks after your rhinoplasty procedure. More importantly, is to make sure you get adequate follow up after your surgical rhinoplasty procedure During the first year, in case you need any steroid shots for swelling when there's thick skin present in the nasal tip.
