Can I request anti-anxiety meds to take during rhino recovery?

You should mention this to your surgeon. They can absolutely provide anti anxiety meds for after your procedure. It is more common than you think!

You can continue taking your prescription anti anxiety medication one day after your rhinoplasty surgery. Taking your medication will not have negative effect on your outcome

We have even seen a first panic attack occur in a Teenage young lady. Anxiolytics are commonly prescribed for use after rhinoplasty surgery, however, whether or not this would be suitable for you depends on your overall symptoms. You'll want to discuss this with your surgeon. Most rhinoplasty surgeons use an intranasal splint and this can exacerbate feeling of claustrophobia.

We routinely suggest our patients undergoing any sort of cosmetic surgery to take anti-anxiety medications one/two nights before and several nights after surgery to cope with pre and postoperative anxiety. This is in particular the case with younger patients undergoing nose surgery. In some cases of prolonged anxiety this can be extended to 4-6 weeks. Patients with known anxiety/depression should also seek a psychiatry consult in this regard ahead of surgery. Hope this helps.

Anti-anxiety medication after rhinoplasty: some patients do feel claustrophobic when their nose is packed as it sometimes is after septal surgery. It is less common to have that feeling just due to stuffiness where there is no packing, but some patients may experience this. It is entirely reasonable to request anti-anxiety medication such as Valium To get past the worst of the claustrophobic feeling in the early days following rhinoplasty.

I have a lot of experience with panic attack patients on this issue, most of the time it's not worse than a common cold and also we help with medication to breath better after the surgery so most probably it will be a smooth healing period after surgery for you

In our practice, we manage postoperative anxiety and claustrophobia by placing a steroid shot into the inferior turbinates during the surgical procedure which minimizes a lot of swelling internally so the patient can still breathe after a rhinoplasty procedure during the recovery process. Antianxiety medication's are also acceptable, but you shouldn't mix them with narcotics.

Plastic surgeons are not trained to manage anxiety.
