I had a parathyroidectomy and the scar was longer than planned. All but one parathyroid were removed and almost 2/3 of my thyroid due to finding a Lima bean sized adenoma. The scar has lightened, but seems to be right where one RealSelf doctor pointed out that my platymas had split.

Answer: Neck lift and previous neck surgery. When each of my patients come for consultation, I take a thorough history and examination before discussing treatment options. This includes previous surgeries and scars that may be involved in future treatments. This is something to consider, but it does not often change your options to improve the shape of your neck. Please bring up details with your surgeon so they can provide a safe and happy surgery. Safety comes first.

Answer: Platysma repair and scar I agree with my colleague that scars from thyroid or parathyroid surgery rarely interfere with our ability to perform a neck lift and repair the dehiscence of the muscle. At the time of the endocrine surgery, the dissection likely affected the blood supply to the surrounding skin, so the more remote the neck surgery the better. Please consider discussing your concerns with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in a formal consultation. While your photos are limited, it does appear that you have laxity above and along the jawline, so it may be worth considering a facelift or lower facelift, rather than just a neck lift. Best of luck as you research your options.
