There is this bone that sticks out at the tope of my nose bridge, on the left side. I only noticed it about a year or so ago, I’m not sure where it came from? I just noticed it as I grew up. Could it cause problems for me? I have always suffered from nasal infections and find that I often breath through my mouth only.

Answer: Rhinoplsty Hello, In all likelihood this issue will not cause internal, functional problems in addition to the ones already mentioned. If you have problems breathing through your nose and have frequent sinus infections and you decide to address the cosmetic deformity, all issues can be improved with a functional septorhinoplasty. This procedure addressed form and function at the same time. make sure you consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty. Best of Luck,

Answer: Nasal evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. If you are bothered by the asymmetry then you could undergo a rhinoplasty surgery to improve this. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: My nose has a little bone that sticks out, and it’s crooked. Do I need to fix it? No one ever "needs" a rhinoplasty. It is an elective procedure and only you can determine if your nasal features concern you enough to do something about improving the cosmetic appearance of your nose and whether it would be worthwhile. Following the advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do based on limited 2 dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon with extensive nasal surgery experience who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon (ENT) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Additional information about the procedure will help you decide if it is a procedure that you want to pursue. Answer: Nasal asymmetry Greetings, The bump on your nose probably just formed as your nose and face have grown and developed. It is not a problem that would cause infections or pain, but it could certainly be addressed if you are unhappy with the asymmetry that it creates. Your breathing problems can best be assessed with an examination of the inside of your nose. I'd recommend a consultation with a physician who specializes in rhinoplasty for further evaluation. Good luck!
