Dear Sir or Madame, I am planning a procedure to reduce my double chin. How could this, basically as a side affect, change my chin dimple / chin cleft?Actually i like my chin dimple, could the double chin reduction/removal be done in a way, that the dimple is more prominent? (Without any additional procedures like implants or sutures?) Best wishes, Johnny

Answer: Liposuction for fat in the neck, and chin implant for recessive chin profile It would be helpful to have a full set of facial and neck photograph from all angles to make a determination about which procedures you need. Liposuction is performed to reduce the fat deposits in the neck. Placement of a chin implant is performed to augment the chin forward. The chin implant is placed along the bone, while your dimple is in the dermis, therefore you will still retain your dimple. Both procedures are usually performed together, and can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia

Answer: Double chin and dimple Liposuction alone will not change a dimple and is not a good way to try to do so. to accentuate the dimple using a permanent suture is probably the best option. Sometimes leaving things alone is a good idea as well. The great majority probably at least 95% of people seeking Chin and neck Liposuction have as their primary diagnosis a facial skeletal and balance with a mandible that is small or lax projection compared to the Maxilla. This typically presents with an overbite dental occlusion, profile pictures will show the upper lip has more forward projection than the lower lip, premature double chin without obesity, lack of jawline definition, and a propensity for premature jowls. Most people who have the procedure have a normal fat distribution. When surgeons do procedures that don’t treat the primary problem patients need to realize they will only get a partial improvement. Some individuals get stunning results from chin and neck liposuction. The best candidates tend to be young people who are slightly overweight. It helps if the surgeon has exceptional talent with loads of experience. Jaw advancement is not particularly popular but it does treat the primary problem head-on better for most of these people. I suggest having a few in person consultations for local board-certified plastic surgeons and consider also consulting with local oral surgeons. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
