1 week after Juvederm lip injections - is swelling/discoloration normal? (Photo)

I had 0.5ml of Juvederm injected into my lips 8 days ago. Had no bruising afterwards just a small amount of swelling and my lips seemed to settle pretty fast although I can "feel" the lines of filler in my lips. This morning the line of filler in my lower lip has a lump in it if I make my lip taught, and also is a bit of a reddy/bruised colour compared to the rest of my lips and is slightly swollen (not painful). I've contacted the nurse and she said it doesn't look like anything to worry about.

It takes at least 2-3 weeks for swelling and irritation to go down after lip injections.  I suggest seeing your physician if you are concerned after this time.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  JVD in the lips often takes up to 2-3 weeks to fully mature with the filler absorbing water, softening in texture, and any swelling fully resolving.  Hang in there and allow your results more time, I think you will be happy with your final results.

Thank you for your question. It is common to have swelling after lip augmentation. It will take up to 2 weeks for all swelling and bruising to resolve. You can ice the area for the 48 hours after treatment to help reduce swelling. The lump you are experiencing can be residual filler. If it is filler you can gently massage it to help smooth it out. If after 2 weeks you are not happy with your result you can have the filler dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Best of Luck!

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photographs.  Sorry that you are having some concerns about your postprocedure appearance.  Some swelling and possibly bruising is normal after Juvederm injection, especially in the lips.  Icing is helpful for up to 48 hours after the procedure.  Arnica is also beneficial for minimizing normal postprocedure swelling and bruising.  Please keep in mind that it will take 2 weeks to allow for normal postprocedure swelling to resolve and to see your final result.  At that point, if you continue to have any concerns, please be sure to see your injector for an in-person reevaluation in order to best address your concerns and to determine the best course of action.  Hope this helps and best wishes!

Bruising and swelling are common after lip fillers are placed.  I would evaluate again in 2 weeks.  If you still concerned follow up with your treating physician so they can examine the area. Good luck with your recovery.

Swelling and bruising are common after lip injections.  It can take up to two weeks to resolve.  From your photos you appear to be progressing normally.  Any lumps that are felt can be gently massaged to help soften them.  If you still have concerns two weeks after your treatment, return to your injector for an evaluation.

I would say this is within the norm for lip swelling after filler. A nodule is possible and sometimes need to be reduced with hyaluronidase. It this area becomes painful, one has to be concerned about an infection, which is fairly rare in the lips. If there are concerns after 14 days, go in and see your nurse.
