Hi, wanted to know if it’s normal that my skin on my tummy is darker than normal after liposuction. What can I do to lighten it up? I have a faja burn and I’m 12days post opp. How can I grate the faja burn? I’m currently using faja cream. The skin is currently peeling off now is indication it is healing?will I be left with major scars? What is best to put on this to reduce scar and appearance of the burn.
Answer: Liposuction Recovery U.K. I am sorry you are having this issue. Irritation and burns similar to the one you are describing usually occur when the elastic garment is too tight. The garment should be snug but not overly tight and uncomfortable. It is best to keep the wounds clean and covered with an antibiotic ointment. Also, you may wish to wear a T-shirt under the garment to decrease irritation. The areas should heal without scarring, hopefully. Confirm my advice with your board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Answer: Skin injury from compression garment it's not clear exactly what caused your skin injury. It is possible that this was a pressure sore from an exceedingly tight compression garment. If so the injury is an ischemic injury not a burn. If the pressure on the skin is enough to block the blood flow through capillaries then the skin will eventually become necrotic. This is the same process that happens with old people in nursing homes when they get pressure sores. It's not possible to tell the depth of injury from your picture. Most likely this is a superficial second-degree injury. Typically these blister and heal without needing intervention. These type of injuries are sometimes seen from placing tape in the area that later swells from surgery. In that case the pressure from the construction of the tape is released when the skin blisters and the skin begins to heal. Simple one care with Vaseline or antibiotic ointment should work. I would follow up with your plastic surgeon and let them know. They are the best equipped and helping you with this. Should this be a deeper skin injury then you may need surgical intervention. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
