Can seroma occur 2 years after Breast Implant Removal?

Question

Had implant removed after contracture. Capsule was supposedly removed also but part of it can still feel. Had fluid removed by aspiration time 2 and drain inserted 2 years ago. Fluid is again filling cavity.

Puplover, yes, a seroma can develop in the space where the implant was removed. Several factors can contribute to this including if the capsule was removed, if the muscle was involved and the postoperative use of drains and compression. A chronic seroma will develop a capsule around it, similar to the capsule formed around the implant. An ultrasound can be used to determine if fluid is accumulating. If this has been aspirated and drained, yet continues to return, you may benefit from having the seroma capsule removed and new drains placed to allow healing.

You probably made a capsule around the seroma, which will now need to be removed and drain inserted.

It would be unusual, but yes a seroma can occur 2 years after implant removal.  I encourage you to visit with your surgeon.  An examination is needed to determine if it is a seroma that is forming and the best way to address it based on the amount of fluid.
