I have large cysts in both of my breast. Will the plastic surgeon remove these cysts during the procedure (it would be ideal for them to do so, they are very painful). If not, would the implants look weird because of my cysts? Also I would need a lift because of breastfeeding.
Answer: BA and fibrocystic breasts Dear AddyH.,you should treat your fibtrocystic breasts before any breast surgery. It is not usual practice to remove breast cysts during breast augmentation surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery

Answer: Fibrocystic Breast Disease and Augmentation To answer your question, most Plastic Surgeons (including myself) will not remove breast cysts during an augmentation. Implants are most commonly placed beneath the muscle and so the actual breast tissue is virtually untouched during this procedure. There are a number of ways to control symptoms associated with Fibrocystic Breast Disease including reducing caffeine which may prove helpful. I hope that helps and wish you the very best!-Gregory A Buford MD FACSBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author

Answer: Fibrocystic changes Fibrocystic changes are very common in women. Yes during breast procedures I have removed some large cysts and potentially your surgeon can do so. However there are dietary changes that can help and many women find that implants can also help hide some of these changes. In short, it is nothing to worry about and it’s perfectly fine to do in combination with a breast augmentation and even a lift. I would suggest seeing A board-certified plastic surgeon in your area who can help determine whether or not you need a lift and can help you evaluate these fibercystic changes. Best of luck! Answer: Breast enhancement procedures and fibrocystic changes Fibrocystic breasts or fibrocystic breast disease (FCD) is a condition of breast tissue affecting an estimated 30-60% of women and at least 50% of women of childbearing age. It is characterized by noncancerous breast lumps which can sometimes cause discomfort, often periodically related to hormonal influences from the menstrual cycle. They are benign and usually diffuse throughout the entire breast.Breast lifts, reductions or placement of breast implants have no influence on FCD and it is not possible to remove all of the FCD. If some cysts are large enough or painful they can be aspirated or removed.Good Luck!

Answer: Fibrocystic Breast Your surgeon may choose to remove cyst from your breast during your breast augmentation and lift. I recommend my patients get a mammogram prior to any breast lift procedure. Discuss your options with your surgeon.
