How unsafe is it to get a BBL while there is a pandemic?

Hi, I had planned on getting my BBL in May / June before covid-19 postponed my plans. Anyways, I can rebook for June because things will be open again. I am Canadian going to Dominican Republic. My issue is I’m unsure if it’s safe enough to get a BBl during this time because I am a heavy weed smoker so my lungs are not the best, there’s a pandemic, and getting a BBL will lower my immune system. On the other hand, I really want this done. Opinions and advice? Thanks.

It is 100% not even remotely safe to do what you are suggesting. There is a very significant chance that you will get very sick or die. In general, it is not wise to travel to 3rd world countries for cheap surgery (and DR is 3rd world despite being a US territory). Several patients from Toronto have died there from the unsafe surgery in the past year or two, so that alone should be reason not to do this. Add the fact that COVID-19 is completely unchecked in the US right now and you'll be flying there and back, which is the method of transportation most likely to spread COVID, the chance of you suffering a serious complication or getting COVID and getting sick and/or dying is exceptionally high. I would absolutely recommend against doing this and wait until you can do it properly in a safe environment. No aesthetic surgery is worth dying for!!

The decision is up to you and your plastic surgeon based upon your current health status.  I would postpone the surgery until the pandemic has waned before traveling via plane from Canada to the Dominican Republic and back. It would be extremely difficult to follow-up with your PS should complications occur.

Personally I would never consider doing what you are suggesting.I do not recommend traveling far distances for elective surgical procedures.It’s a free world which is a great thing.The decision is yours.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
