How long after breast implant surgery can they be squeezed without damage or complications?

I recommend you wait 8 weeks to allow the capsule to mature and implants to settle in their space. Especially implants placed under the muscle tend to move out of position easily in the early healing period. After 8 weeks, your implants are fully cushioned by skin and fat and therefore will not rapture by a squeeze. With that said, I must add that I do not recommend my patients to get mammography after their breast implant surgery. Instead, they can continue to get their yearly checks with ultrasound. To be safe, I would wait at least 6 weeks before doing any major squeezing on your breasts, just to make sure the incisions from your lift have closed up and the pocket is nice and dry and healed before causing any trauma. A good reference is that if it doesnt hurt you, its probably ok to do! Good luck on your post-operative journey!

Generally speaking, the incisions on the breasts should be fully healed prior to touching them in order to avoid infection. This should be within four weeks, but you may experience some soreness if they are being "squeezed". I recommend speaking with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options.

I typically recommend patients to wait at least 2 months prior to squeezing/manipulating the breast implants in order to allow for more wound healing to take place.

After that it would be safe but you may find some discomfort so do what makes you feel comfortable. Speak to your plastic surgeon who will be performing the surgery to make sure that the time frame is safe.

Great question! Definitely NOT one year!!! This question comes up with almost every one of our patients of mine that has had breast surgery whether it be implants or a lift or implants and a lift. Quite simply you are to avoid disruption of placement of the implant for 6 weeks (1 1/2 months). By squeezing implant you are manipulating the breast. During the first 6 weeks the implant should not be squeezed as placement of the implant can be disrupted. Patients with lifts like yourself are given the same guidelines as the skin needs time to heal as well.

This is not to be confused with massaging the breast post operatively. Your surgeons directions for breast massage 2 weeks after your procedure are incredibly important. Massaging the skin and breast tissue around the breast keeps the capsule soft and feeling natural.

It is best to avoid strenuous activity for six weeks after surgery. Your surgeon will discuss post op restrictions during recovery with you.

By six weeks, you should be back to fairly full activities, including those in the bedroom. Do avoid painful and excessive squeezing.

Each plastic surgeon has their own individual postoperative protocol based upon training and years of clinical experience. In our practice, we recommend breast massage beginning a week after surgery or when tenderness subsides. Breast massage maintains the size of the breast pocket, assisting in the prevention of capsular contracture, a condition in which the scar surrounding the implant shrinks circumferentially, causing unnatural firmness or breast distortion.
I recommend you discuss this issue with your plastic surgeon.
