Do I have symmastia or is this normal? 16 months post-op (Photo)

Question

16 months post op . Round smooth high profile Mentor implants under the muscle. I am happy with the results but recently I came across this condition and it made me think about the fact that my breast do not have the gape between them as you see in other implants results. When I lift them the gap becomes smaller . The gap should remain the same in normal breasts or it is normal for them to get closer in bras an when you lift them? Thank you in advance.

Symmastia is when there is no gap between the breasts.  There would be no cleavage, and the breasts appear to merge together.  Based on your photos, you do not have symmastia.  Even with pushing the breasts together, there is a clear demarcation between them.  It is normal for the breasts to come closer together when you lift them or in a bra.  That is why push-up bras were created to give the appearance of more cleavage.

Hello, congratulations on a very nice breast augmentation result. In my opinion, I would not consider what you are demonstrating as symmastia but rather as a normal variation. Every patient has unique anatomy when it comes to their breasts and their chest wall and no two patient's "gap" between the breasts will be exactly the same. Your "gap" may be narrower than other women's but it is within what would be expected.

Hello, thank you for your question. Symmastia is when there is no defined midline separating either side of your side of your chest. It doesn't appear that you have have from the photos. Speak with your plastic surgeon about it.Usually cleavage is a natural component that is not changed by an augmentation but can be more pronounced after implants.

Hi. It doesn’t look like you have symmastia. Your result looks very nice and it is normal for the space in between your breast to get smaller when you push the implants closer together.

Your gap space is fine. You did not show your before photos, but I suspect you have a narrow gap naturally which most women love.

Cleavage appears excellent, without tenting of the skin across midline.Symmastia is a condition where the skin and muscle between the breasts detaches and the implant pockets come together as one.
