5 days post op Juvederm in my lips. Should I be concerned about bruising getting worse? (photos)

Thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear your unhappy with your lip injection. At 5 days your still swollen and it can be asymmetrical, esp. with an underlying bruise. You did not mention what type of juvaderm filler was used or the amount injected. The swelling could last for another 1-2 weeks. You need to discuss your treatment with your physician. Discontinue the aspiroin and use warm compresses.   Rest assured if the asymmetry persists after 2 weeks then it can easy be reversed. Best Wishes

Bruises do change color and shape as you heal. By applying traumeel cream to a bruise post injection you can decrease bruising. Avoid aspirin for 10 days prior to injection and a week afterwards. Tylenol is a good treatment for any post injection discomfort. Avoid hot places after an injection and apply cold compresses 10 mins on and 10 mins off. Hope this helps.  

If you are concerned about bruising after fillers, I would generally avoid taking aspirin or other NSAIDS both before and after your treatment.  However, given the numbness and pain your are experiencing, your Doctor may have some other concerns about your condition.  In situations of impending necrosis after fillers, aspirin and warm compresses are definitely indicated.  This is a situation much better handled in person than over the internet; I would definitely keep in close contact with your injecting Physician.

It is difficult to say with certainty from the photographs whether this represents normal healing.  It is wise to communicate with the injecting physician.  I encourage you to continue doing so and, even if you live a distance from the office, I recommend making the trip if requested by your physician to do so. 

ASPIRIN???? NO!!!! Are you sure you were told aspirin??? That would make the bruise worse......//////////////

My experience is that bruises gradually get worse before getting better.  I would have done a VBeam to the bruise to limit the time the bruise is there to a few days.  I'm a believer in using the cannulas for these injections because the bruising is much less, so the social downtime is less.  Steve Weiner, MD, Facial Plastic Surgeon, Destin.

Bruising is common with filler injection. It does look like you have just a big, bruise and nothing more.  It is possible for the bruise to sink a little with gravity in the direction of down, which may be why you thought it was getting lower.  Blood under the skin will go to the point of least resistance and in the direction of gravity.  To avoid bruising with future filler injections, I would avoid blood thinners like ASA, Ibuprofen, fish oil for ten days before filler and two days after and with the doctor's assistance apply ice both before and after the injection, along with pressure for ten minutes to the treated area.  It seems your doctor may have recommended the ASA for pain from the bruise which is fine more than 2-3 days out.  This bruise should go away gradually over the next one-two weeks.

Although it is large and dark, it is nothing to worry about.  Over a few days, the bruising may get darker.  The reason it is below your lip is just gravity.  This happens, sometimes.  I would take Extra Strength Tylenol is you have pain.  Aspirin can 'thin' your blood and increase bruising.  Warm compresses will bring blood to the area, so try ice on and off for 15 minute intervals.  (Always place a thin cloth between your lip and the ice)

Bruises tend to get worse before they get better. And they can move downward with gravity. So that's not uncommon. I certainly wouldn't recommend any aspirin and would have you apply cold compresses.
