A full tummy tuck is very scary to me. Could I be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck with the incision in my pubic? Biggest concerns is stretch marks. But I'm also not fond of the "new" belly button look. Second concern is the folds and pouch. I'm looking for what will give me optimal results with the least amount of recover time.
Answer: Improving the torso You would certainly find benefit in liposuction to your abdomen, waist and hips. Management of skin laxity, stretchmarks, and muscle separation would not be addressed with liposuction, though. A 'mini tuck' simply tightens the lower abdominal skin, and does not release skin at the belly button. This limits how much skin can be removed, and makes it difficult to address upper abdominal muscle separation. I do agree with you though, that achieving an aesthetically pleasing and natural belly button requires artistry that is not seen often enough. Other than the belly button, I'm not sure why a full tuck scares you. I argue that once you have deflated the abdominal area with liposuction, you will uncover relative skin excess above the belly button, and a 'mini tuck' will not address it. A well performed full tuck will give you a very low transverse scar that will be hard to see, even naked, and your belly will have contours that would be impossible to replicate with a 'mini tuck'.

Answer: TT Thank you for your inquiry! By your photos, it looks like you would be a great candidate for an abdominoplasty to get rid of excess skin. The only difference in a mini vs a full abdominoplasty is how long the incision is. A mini tummy tuck is going to have a smaller incision than a full tummy tuck. Muscle repair, removal of excess skin, and liposuction are all included with both a mini and a full tummy tuck. I recommend scheduling a consult appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon like myself so we can create a surgical plan that is best for you and your goals!

Answer: Full tummy tuck You appear to have some stretch marks above your belly button, making a mini tummy tuck unsuitable for you. A full tummy tuck would be better, since it can minimize the appearance of those above your belly button and remove some below. However, please note that a tummy tuck (regardless of whether it’s a mini or full) does not typically remove all stretch marks.

Answer: Would I be a candidate for mini tummy tuck? Can incisions be made in pubic area? You will achieve some improvement with a "mini" tummy tuck, but substantially greater results with a standard procedure. Seek a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. After examining you, he or she can provide information on outcomes you can expect from various procedures. They can then guide you through the process to select the best procedure specifically for you.

Answer: Considering procedures If you are truly wanting the optimal results you will want to consider the standard tummy tuck. This will best address the skin laxity, stretch marks, and abdominal wall. The result will be a tighter, flatter abdomen. A mini tummy tuck will give you some improvement but it will not be the same as a standard tuck.

Answer: Abdomen You would get nice improvement in your lower abdomen with a mini tuck. Nothing would change in your upper abdomen since it would not be treated. The incision would be in that natural crease under your pouch and not in the pubic area.
