I’m 33, 5’2, and about 110 pounds. I’ve had one child and am not planning on having anymore. I would like have a more vertical belly button and have though about umbilicoplasty with liposuction however I feel like that would leave me with lax skin. Do I have enough tissue for a tummy tuck/mini tuck?
Answer: Tummy tuck vs lipo Looking at your photos I think you a great candidate for liposuction. Although you could do a tummy tuck but you would most likely end up with a vertical incision somewhere between the belly button and bottom incision. Laser assisted liposuction will allow your Surgeon to contour the midsection very nicely and help with the skin retraction. I would recommend speaking with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in person to evaluate you and discuss your options. Best of luck to you.

Answer: Am I a candidate? From your photo it appears you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck. This procedure would remove excess skin and fat as well as correct abdominal wall laxity. The result will be a flatter, tighter tummy. The next step is to schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon near you.

Answer: Mini tuck You should do well with a mini tuck to tighten your lower abdominal wall and remove excess skin. Once the abdomen is tight, the excess skin will be noticeable. Liposuction only removes fat.

Answer: Tummy tuck Dear hjenk2432, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Tummy tuck and its implications For a mini tummy tuck there is never an issue of not having enough skin. The problem with a mini tummy tuck is that it typically does not include muscle tightening and the surgeon cannot reach anything above the belly button. With that muscle tightening you’ll still have a bulging abdominal wall. The question is if you have enough skin for a full tummy tuck and still be able to have a very low set scar. For individuals who don’t have that much skin laxity and have a full tummy tuck they can either add a small vertical scar between the belly button and the primary incision or make the scar slightly higher above the pubic area. Probably your best option is to have a few in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons in your community to get a proper assessment and better understanding of the different treatment options. I don’t think Liposuction is going to create what you’re looking for because muscle separation is one of the reasons your abdominal wall is bulging. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
