Hello. It's hard to say what that would do without photos or the ability to perform an examination. As far as getting to the details of sizing in my practice, this is how we do it:1) My philosophy includes guiding patients to explore reasonable options for breast implant size, usually two to three similar sizes, which allows the patient to visualize how different volumes affect their breast cup. 2) The best guide for a final breast implant size recommendation is derived using measurements from the patient’s own breasts and chest. 3) When measurements are considered then options for sizes can be presented. 4) I use the Mentor Volume Sizing System of breast sizers to demonstrate how these different volumes will look on a patient’s body. 5) This methods offers good reliability and is simple to use, but is not perfect.Bigger is not always better. Best,Dr. ALDO.
Hi Sara,This is a hard one. Please see the excellent answer below by Dr. Morgan. This is perhaps the hardest decision for a patientto make, as well as the surgeon. Cup size estimates can be misleading, but Igenerally advise patients that they will experience an increase ofapproximately one cup size per 200 cc. You can try on implants in the office byplacing them into a special bra. Approximately 50 cc (1-2 oz.) is added to the final volume to accountfor flattening of the implant in the partial sub-muscular pocket. Once youdecide on a size you like, then add on about 25-50 cc, because in real life theimplant will be flattened slightly by your tissues.Multiple measurements need to be taken to fitan implant to your exact anatomy. Have your surgeon's office show you thecharts of the implant dimensions for the various profiles of silicone andsaline from the manufacturer. Then you and your surgeon can piecetogether the puzzle by matching your measurements, with your wishes, versusyour tissue cover and the available implants to arrive at a surgical plan.Keep in mind larger implants tend to havemore problems over the years.Sincesilicone implants wrinkle less than saline implants, they might be your bestbet. You canalso approximate this at home by measuring out an equivalent amount of riceplaced into a cutoff foot of old panty-hose, and put this in your bra.Wear this around the house for a while, andsee what you think.Implant size mustsquare with assessments of tissue cover, breast diameter, and chest wall width. Multiple measurementsof your chest wall are taken (seven in total). Implant size selection has been an issue of much discussion. Therefore, I use a wide variety of methods, but the implant size isalways established preoperatively. Also, patients are advised to bring reference photos demonstrating their ideal sizeand shape. A photo album of patient pictures is maintained to assist them. These photos ultimately help in determining where the implants will be placed, since they can be shifted inside (to provide more cleavage), to the outside, upor superiorly, and down or inferiorly during surgery. In determining the finalsize selection, I always place the highest priority on the preoperativemeasurements and potential tissue cover. Then, the patient’s verbal requestsare factored into the analysis.Ouraverage size over the last 7,000 implants was 350. We use the quick recovery approach, so click on theweb reference link below to have this explained.Be sure to see only a board certifiedplastic surgeon (by ABPS - The American Board of Plastic Surgery) who is amember of ASAPS (The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) and or amember of ASPS (The American Society of Plastic Surgeons). Also, ask if theyhave an established, high volume breast augmentation practice, performing severalhundred breast augmentations each year. Be sure the PS has been in practice fora while, 20-years or more might be a good gauge.Does the PS offer all three incisions?Discuss the implant type (gel or saline),shaped "gummy bear" or non-shaped, smooth or textured, implant pocket(over or under the muscle) and the "quick recovery approach."Ask to see their before and after photos ifyou didn’t see any on their website. If they are experienced, they shouldhave several 100 breast implant patients for you to view. I would alsorecommend that your doctor offer you the chance to talk to past patients whowould be happy to discuss their experience with you. You need to feelcomfortable, so make sure the environment is safe as in an accredited surgerycenter. Also, ask a prospective surgeon if he or she has ever published journalarticles in professional peer-reviewed journals, which they can provideyou.Allthe best, “Dr. Joe”
It is not possible to predict which implant would be needed to increase your breasts by a certain cup size. Every person has a different chest shape and amount of pre-existing breast tissue, and this also impacts on your final size. During a consultation, the plastic surgeon will often show you pre- and postop photos, have you try on sizers, or use 3D imaging to help you pick the best implants based on your goals and body type.
Size is a critical question for many women who choose breast augmentation. The key is to work with a Board Certified plastic surgeon with expertise and experience in breast augmentation. There is an ideal shoe size for your foot. Too small and your foot will be crammed and too large and your foot will not fill the shoe. The same thing is true with breasts: too large and it will look round and fake; too small and it will be loose and empty on the top. The common denominator to the most beautiful breasts is that they were sized objectively on the basis of measurements. We combine a proven formula based on measurements of the rests and chest along with through discussions of patient's desires. Photos of ideal breasts and results from patients with similar breasts are often very helpful in the discussion. A rice test in the office or at home can also be very helpful.
Hi... Thank you for the question... With a photo is easier to help with this type of question... With size tester before surgery can help with your concern...
There are implant sizing systems that would allow you to "try on" before hundred and 50 mL implant to see if it is to your liking. I find these very effective in assisting patients to get the final size it they want.
Thank you for your question. It is much better to accurately discuss implant volume and projection with an in office exam and detailed measurements. In order to make an accurate size recommendation, I would need to assess your chest wall and breast mound measurements/characteristics. I use these measurements to help me during the sizing process to guide you to a safe result for your chest wall and just as important, one that meets your end desires. The next step is to try on this range of implants in the office with your doctor. The key to this success is showing your surgeon the body proportion you desire with a bra sizer and allowing your surgeon to guide you to the right implant. It will be much easier to communicate in implant cc's than cup size when determining the appropriate implant for you during the sizing process. In addition, review of photos and use of rice bags can be very helpful to the patient and surgeon in achieving a safe and happy result. Close intereaction and involvement from your surgeon during this process can help alleviate the anxiety and fears of choosing the right size. I wish you a safe recovery and fantastic result.Dr. Gill
It is not a good idea to focus on cup size alone as cup sizes are not standardized. So a D cup to you could be a C cup to someone else or even a DD cup. In terms of implant sizing, I consider two factors when selecting implants for my patients:1. Dimensional planning2. Gel Implant Sizing systemDimensional planning – The measurements of your chest wall are taken. Also, the breast dimensions including the height, width, and current dimensions of each breast form the basis of dimensional planning. Based on these measurements, the implant size is recommended. This will give you a unique breast implant that is suited for your body frame. However, there are some limitations of what size we can recommend. For instance, some implants may just be too big for a narrow chest wall. Your surgeon can review this with you during the consultation.Gel Implant Sizing system – During the preliminary breast implant consultation, you will be provided with an option to “try on” a variety of implant shapes and sizes. You can also visualize the possible outcomes of your surgery which helps you to get that perfect size to give you the shape that you longed for. This way your preferences are known and you can then pick a range of implants that will “fit” just right to give a soft natural fuller look. Hope this helps.Dr. BasuHouston, TX
I never promise a cup size to a patient. Bra sizing is too variable. What I recommend is to try on the implants. If they give you the look you want, then that is the right sized implant. The bra size is what it is. Hope this helps.
it is very difficult to determine a bra size with a particular implant since different companies vary in their sizes of implants. that is, a D from one company may be a double D in another company. The best approach is to see a board certified Plastic Surgeon for evaluation and try different implants to see how you would look.
Hi Anonymous,Yes you have a Type I TB, and we see this frequently. So, no need to be disheartened. There are four Types that are seen, and you have a mild tendency in this direction. You can see from the side view that your breast comes almost straight out from your chest wall, and therefore...
Thank you for the question and pictures. Based on your photographs, I think that you are starting at a good place and should have a very nice outcome with breast augmentation surgery. Given that your surgery is coming up soon, I would suggest that you spend more time with your plastic...
Hello and thanks for your question. I'm not sure that weight gain will make your breasts bigger. Breast implants are a safe and effective way to enhance a woman's cup size. Best, Dr. ALDO.
