Hello, I am researching rhinoplasty to educate myself for future consultations (and detect any red flags in doctors). The whole procedure is terrifying, and I'm afraid of ending up with a madman wielding a knife. :P I am interested in slightly slimming my nose, but I like nose with a bit of a "pixie" curve to them. I see so many cases where the profile has a perfectly straight shaft. Is this preference, or is it dangerous to give the nose a curvier appearance? Thank you, have a good one!

Answer: Pixie curve to nose
It is aesthetically unpleasing to have a pixie curve to the nose but as a personal choice you can ask for it. You are doing the right thing by doing a lot of research before undergoing surgery. You need to communicate very clearly with the help of photographs to your surgeon what EXACTLY you are looking for. Write down your concerns, desires, fears before you go for consultation. Take notes during consultation. After that reach a mutually agreed upon goal with your surgeon. Once you have done at least two in person consultations then go ahead with surgery. Dr. J

Answer: Defining your nose shape goals
Hello,
Thank you for the question. Nose shape and appearance is based on many factors including the shape and dimensions of the facial structures surrounding the nose. Since no two faces are alike you may want to consider having either a 3-D consultation with your plastic surgeon or having your plastic surgeon take photos of you and then draw general contours of correction on your photos. Doing so will allow definitive discussion between you and your plastic surgeon regarding the shape and length of your nose as well as the projection of the tip of your nose.
All the best,
