In general, will a neck liposuction help with improving jowls (typical droopiness for a 54-year women)? Is there a way to get a neck liposuction where the fat will be extracted as I don't want it to stay in my body as I heard of it going to veins and clogging up arteries. Thank you!

Answer: Neck liposuction does not help with jowls knee Liposuction performed in the neck is designed to remove the fatty deposits in the neck only. At age 54 there may be excess and loose skin present which will require a facelift. When jowls are present, they need to be lifted back to their normal position with a face lift. When there is extensive fat in the neck, a lower face and neck lift is performed. For many examples and more information, please see the video and the link below

Answer: Jowls, neck liposuction and fat Fat is always removed during liposuction. Jowls are formed by skin and neck laxity rather than excess fat accumulation. If anything, the jowls can, at times, be accentuated from facial liposuction. There are surgeons who will liposuction the jowls directly, and minor improvements can be seen at times. Liposuction of this area puts patients at risk for developing facial nerve paralysis. The standard textbook treatment for the jowls is a facelift. An in-person consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon can help decipher what treatment options might be appropriate for you.Best of luck, Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
