I'm planning on getting a liposuction around my chin/jaw as well as some chin work. However, I don't know what procedure would work best for my small, upturned chin. I don't want an implant as they can be dislodged so I was thinking of maybe getting a genioplasty but I'm not too sure if it would work. I would honestly rather just have my chin flattened a bit since it seems to curl up. What procedure would you recommend? Also, if it helps, I plan on getting a rhinoplasty before anything else.

Answer: Rhinoplasty, chin implant, and liposuction of the neck A rhinoplasty, chin implant placement and liposuction of the neck can all be performed to together under one anesthetic with one recovery period. In our practice, we use small Silastic chin implants to bring the chin forward for better facial balance and proportions. It is very rare for a chin implant to get dislodged, as long as it was placed in the right position underneath the periosteum of the mandible

Answer: Understanding facial anatomy Making a correct assessment is a complex process. From the very limited information and pictures you have shown, it appears that you have a slight imbalance between your maxilla and your mandible. Your chin projection is good in relation to your lower lip. This means that a genioplasty or a chin implant have the potential to give you a look called a witch's chin. The distance between the front of your maxilla and the front of your mandible is less than ideal. X-rays would be necessary to confirm this. Sometimes liposuction can give a nice modest improvement. Correcting facial skeletal imbalance is very involved and may not be appropriate. Many other variables need to be taken into consideration. These include skin, muscle and underlying fat layers. Your upper lip is also a little bit shorter than ideal. Do you show a lot of your upper teeth when you smile? I suggest finding an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to help you make a complete assessment so that you have a clear understanding of all the variables involved in giving you your individual look. Once you understand all of these, then an appropriate treatment plan can be made.Understand that the nose is greatly affected by the mandible. A small mandible will make the nose look much larger. Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
