I am 8 days post op from a lower body lift with replacement of silicone breast implants (400cc to 550cc). I was 179 on surgery day and am still at 177. My size 10 jeans still fit the same and I guess I am freaking out. 12 lbs of skin were removed during the procedure. I know swelling can last a while, but can I safely assume that when the swelling subsides I can at least expect the 12lb weight loss and a size change???
Answer: Early after body lift It will take weeks to months for your swelling to resolve after surgery of such magnitude, and despite the resection of considerable soft tissue, it would not be uncommon for a patient to weigh more after surgery than before. When the result matures, and the edema resolves, and all of the retained IV fluid is mobilized, the weight loss will be realized. Best of luck with your recovery!!!

Answer: Lower body lift 360 circumferential lower body lift belt lipectomy massive weight loss extended tummy tuck Dear [Recipient], Thank you for your question about weight and swelling following your lower body lift, during which 12 pounds of skin and fat were removed. Your provided history and pictures are helpful in understanding your current postoperative state. Healing and Swelling Post-Surgery: It's important to recognize that complete healing and the resolution of swelling take time, especially just eight days post-surgery. Swelling is a normal response to such a procedure, particularly if it involved liposuction, as suggested by the bruising on your back. Duration of Swelling: Expect to experience swelling for at least 6 to 8 weeks, and possibly longer due to the aggressive nature of the liposuction. Swelling results from fluid accumulation, which can temporarily contribute to weight gain. Managing Swelling: Compression Garments: Wearing medical-grade compression garments continuously is crucial for minimizing swelling. They should be removed only for changing dressings and bathing. Lymphatic Massage: Consult with your plastic surgeon about starting lymphatic massage around 2-3 weeks post-surgery to help mobilize fluid and speed up healing. Weight Fluctuations: The 12 pounds of tissue removed during surgery doesn’t directly translate to an immediate 12-pound reduction on the scale due to postoperative swelling. As the swelling subsides and you resume healthy eating and exercise habits, you’re likely to notice a decrease in weight beyond the initial 12 pounds of tissue removed. Patience and Recovery: Remember, recovery from a lower body lift is a gradual process. It's important to give your body the time it needs to heal and for the swelling to reduce. Stay in close communication with your plastic surgeon for guidance and reassurance throughout your recovery process. I hope this information provides reassurance and helps you understand what to expect in the coming weeks. Wishing you a smooth and successful recovery. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Lower body lift recovery You are still very early in your recovery. From the degree of bruising you have, you still are very early and have a lot of swelling. What you also have to remember is that during your hospital stay you likely got several liters of fluid during and after your procedure. Each liter of fluid weighs 2.2 pounds. It will take weeks to months for all the swelling to resolve. Over time you will see that weight loss. In terms of sizes of clothing, in my practice I tell my patients the way clothing fits will be dramatically different, but you don't always see big changes in dress or pants size. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Answer: Swelling Thank you for your question and pictures. It is way too soon to even consider weighing yourself after this amount of surgery. There will be a good amount of swelling for several weeks if not a few months. Then, as the swelling goes away so will the pounds and the inches.
