Thank you for your question. Typically we recommend that our patients wait 2-3 hours after they have been injected with Botox, Dysport or Xeomin. This will prevent any spreading of the product into other muscles where we do not want the product to be.
We don't have any clinical tests investigating this question, but most doctors tell their patients not to bend over for four hours after Botox injections. Some physicians don't restrict their patients because Botox is bound to its local tissue quickly after injection, but I still tell my patients of this four hour rule, to be safe. Weight lifting can cause significant elevation of blood pressure and this might induce delayed and significant bruising if one were developing a small bruise regardless of performing exercise. So if it is important to a patient to minimize the chance of swelling and bruising after Botox, then I would advise them not to do strenuous exercise for two days after Botox injections. The information provided in Dr. Shelton's answer is for educational purposes only and is not intended to constitute medical advice. Typically patients can return to their normal daily activities 24 hours after Botox injections. I tell my patients not to lay flat, massage the face, or do strenuous activities for a minimum of four hours after injections. I always recommend speaking to the doctor that injected you about any questions or concerns that you might have as each injector will have their own post-procedural instructions. All the best,
Hello, and thank you for your question. Although there is no real downtime after BOTOX®, it’s best to give yourself a day off of strenuous exercise to see the best results. You’ll also want to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area during this time. After the first 24 hours or so, it should be fine to resume your regular workout routine. If you have specific questions about the development of your results, don’t hesitate to give your provider a call.
There is no evidence that bending over or exercise adversely affects the results or causes drifting of the product after neurotoxin or filler. For some reason these myths have been perpetuated by providers without substantial evidence or scientific backing. You can bend or exercise after having these treatments.
In my practice we recommend waiting 4-6 hours for any type of exercise that may increase your heart rate. Each injector has their own recommendations, but increased activity directly after treatment may create diffusion of the toxin to unintended muscle groups!
I like my patients to keep their head above their heart for about four hours. Other than that, I see no reason why someone cannot immediately weightlift shortly after the procedure.
Thank you for your question! In my experience I have seen no problem with patients returning to their exercise routine right away.
Dear cris3haf, Thank you for your question. I advise my patients to avoid strenuous exercise for about 48 hours after receiving Botox injections. However, I would follow the instructions given to you by your injector. Best of luck to you
Hello and thank you for your question. It is advised for patients to wait one or two days before resuming their exercise routine after receiving Botox treatment.
Some Doctors have no restrictions and others will recommend waiting up to 24 hours after your injection to workout. I recommend speaking to your Doctor about their protocols. It will take 1-2 weeks for final results. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
