I am getting surgery at the end of the month to fix asymmetry. The plan is to reduce the size of 1 of my breasts to match the other + lift to both breasts. At time of surgery Both my breasts will be swollen due to pre menstruation. They are much bigger during this time. Will it cause the doctor to reduce my breast to the size of the other swollen breast? I'm afraid it will affect my results and they will look uneven when the swelling reduces after menstruation. They do change drastically in size.
Answer: Should not matter While many women will have breasts that change during menstruation, the typical amount that breasts change with menstrual cycles will not affect how much weight is taken during a breast reduction procedure. This weight is measured in grams and is proportional to the size of each breast. As long as each breast changes in the same proportion, there should be no significant difference in the symmetry.

Answer: Will swollen breasts from menstruation effect my breast reduction in 1 breast, as mastopexy to both? Hello @agreengirl, thank you for your question. In my opinion it is best to rearrange the tissue, improve projection and reaccomodate the nipple in both breasts, because this way you can achieve a real symmetry and harmony between the two breasts and improve the aspects that allow the best possible result. For more information and recommendations it is best to consult with one or several board certified plastic surgeons. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.

Answer: Breast reduction Dear agreengirl, breast reduction is best suited for women who wish to decrease the size of their breasts. While there are different techniques used to perform this surgery, I prefer the vertical incision (lollipop pattern) breast reduction technique instead of the anchor scar pattern, which reduces more noticeable scarring than usual. I also use a SAFE liposuction technique to reduce additional fat around the stubborn axilla area and bra line. This way, my patients are achieving beautiful results with minimal incisions which reduces downtime and delivers an overall better breast shape long term.If you are considering breast reduction surgery, you should consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options and make sure your surgeon understands your goals. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Breast reduction If you do not have a dramatic change in volume during your menses, then it is safe to keep your present date. If your breasts do swell considerably, I would consider delaying your surgery for a week. Best wishes. Dr. Taranow

Answer: Will swollen breasts from menstruation effect my breast reduction in 1 breast, as mastopexy to both? Swollen breasts due to menstruation can have an impact on breast reduction and mastopexy (breast lift) procedures. Here's how: 1.) Timing of Surgery: It's important to schedule your breast reduction and mastopexy surgery at a time when your breasts are not significantly swollen or engorged. Surgeons typically recommend avoiding surgery during your menstrual period because hormonal changes can lead to increased breast size and sensitivity. 2.) Surgical Planning: Surgeons assess your breast size and shape during the consultation and surgical planning stages. If your breasts are swollen during these assessments, it may affect the surgeon's ability to accurately plan and achieve your desired results. 3.) Postoperative Comfort: After surgery, your breasts will likely be swollen, bruised, and sensitive. If you undergo surgery while your breasts are already swollen from menstruation, you may experience increased discomfort and potentially a longer recovery period. To ensure the best possible outcome, it's crucial to discuss your menstrual cycle and its potential impact on surgery with your plastic surgeon. They can help you choose an appropriate time for the procedure and provide guidance on how to prepare for it. Additionally, follow your surgeon's pre-operative and post-operative instructions carefully to minimize complications and ensure a successful outcome. Always consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon for personalized advice and guidance regarding breast reduction and mastopexy procedures.
