In some breast reduction results photos there appears to be a new fold of flab created by the procedure at the side of the breasts. Is this swelling, or the result of poor craftsmanship?
Answer: Normal Result of Breast Reduction This lateral excess of skin is typically not new tissue, but is excess lateral chest wall skin related to having large breasts. In a standard breast reduction technique, the resection of tissue will end at the edge of the breast itself. While this excision can be extended onto the lateral chest wall, this is not standard. This lateral chest wall excision can be excised with a "bra line" body contouring procedure to remove excess skin on the lateral chest and back. This procedure trades skin on the lateral chest and back for a scar that extends this entire length. The contour improvement can be significant, but the tradeoff is a large scar. However, this is not part of a standard breast reduction.

Answer: Lateral chest folds It is difficult to determine what may be occurring without seeing the photos you are referencing. Sometimes if the photos are taken soon after surgery the result will improve as healing progresses. In other cases a revision is needed after the patient is healed to improve shape from the original procedure.

Answer: Surgery A picture of such fold would be helpful. However, many women, especially overweight, have excess fat and skin on the sides of the breast that are not specifically addressed with a reduction.
