Can vomiting two days after Botox affect the Botox?

Question

I had botox injected on Tuesday in my forehead. I woke up Thursday violently ill, not from the botox, from something I ate. I vomited for at least 5 hours, straight. Is it possible it screwed botox with all of the pressure on my head?

Sorry to hear of your food poisoning. The violent force associated with vomiting two days after Botox won't affect the Botox.  The Botox is bound to its site within a few hours of the injections.  We don't limit exercise the day after Botox so your two day later illness did not ruin your Botox effect.

I'm sorry to hear that you were ill.  At two days post treatment it is not likely that your illness will have any impact on your results.  Final results from your treatment can be seen at two weeks from your injection date.

I am sorry to hear that you were sick, but you should have nothing to worry about.  I generally recommend that patients refrain from strenuous activity for 24 hours following a Botox treatment.  Botox usually bonds to the protein receptors within 24 hours, so by the second day any activity should not relocate the bound Botox.  Should you have any other concerns, I would recommend following up with your doctor to discuss any questions you may have about your recovery and treatment.

Vomiting should not affect your botox results. Expect to see your maximum results 2 weeks after injections. Follow up with your injector if you need any more botox.

I am sorry to hear that you were ill. I have a few comments here.
1. Forehead Botox typically is "locked in" or bound to the neuromuscular junction within the first 24 to 48 hours- some would say 4 hours, so vomiting closer to 48 hours or more is less likely to cause problems or affect results dramatically when typically a low volume around 10 units or so is used. I typically let patients return to normal exercise after 24 hours and have not seen any problems.
2. Although food poisoning can cause vomiting, Botox has side effects including but not limited to Flu like symptoms which have been reported as far out as 2 weeks, and there have been reports of vomiting in the literature. This is something you would want to notify the injector and your physician about.
3. Prolonged vomiting could lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalances and esophageal issues like tears. Following up with your physician promptly for proper exam and treatment is warranted.
