I have an enlarged bulge in my vaginal area from excess skin and I guess fat deposits... i was just wondering if when doing a tummy tuck the lower area is corrected too? Or is that a different procedure.
Answer: Tummy tuck and skin laxity in pubic area Thank you for your question. Most tummy tuck surgeries will pull up and tighten the pubic skin and soft tissues. In addition, some surgeons will liposuction the mons area to diminish excessive forward projection/fullness or narrow the mons in cases where it is too wide. Many of us include this as part of a standard tummy tuck but some offices might charge extra. I would get a consultation with a reputable surgeon in your area and discuss your specific concerns. This is a very common problem and it can often be made a lot better as part of the abdominoplasty.

If you are referring to the pubic bulge or fatty deposits in the upper pubis - then yes, it is included as a part of a well-done tummy tuck procedure. Because the results of a tummy tuck look sub-optimal if this area is not addressed. So, at least in my practice, it is included as a part of tummy tuck. You may want to clarify with your surgeon.

While this is technically not part of a tummy tuck, any time I have a patient who has this, I discuss it ahead of time in order to plan for correcting it at the same time as the tummy tuck. This is because if it is left unaddressed while the rest of the abdomen is made tight and smooth, it looks even worse in proportion afterwards since it now draws attention (whereas before it was overshadowed by the appearance of the abdomen). For patients who did not have it corrected at the time of a tummy tuck, they can always have a separate monsplasty to correct it later.

Some patients undergoing a tummy tuck present with excess skin and fatty tissue of the pubic area (just below where a TT incision runs). These patients will benefit from concomittent contouring and lifting of the pubic area to achieve a smooth transition of their abdomen. Performing a lipoabdominoplasty (combining a tummy tuck with liposuction, tightening of the muscle fascia) in combination with a pubic lift /contouring when needed, give excellent results.
