I have a low tolerance for pain. And will be going to DR for a TT, Lipo, and BBL. As far as recovery will the pain medication they give be sufficient enough? If not how do I get my Physician in U.S. to prescribe it before surgery and will I be allowed to bring it into the country??
Answer: Are pain meds in Dominican Republic strong? Hi. I would strongly urge you not to go out of the country to have your plastic surgery done. Besides potential differences in the quality of the healthcare facility that you may be going to, there is the very real and significant issue of what happens if you have a complication from your surgery. Your US or locally based plastic surgeon should follow you through your entire recovery process and help with what ever complication may come up if that were to happen. However, it is extremely difficult for that to occur overseas. You may well end up spending far more money getting a local plastic surgeon to take care of someone else's problem when you chose to go elsewhere to have your surgery than you would have spent if you had it done locally or regionally instead. I would recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon within reasonable driving distance of where you live, and discuss your options with you thoroughly.Good luck and take care,Dr. Howell

Answer: Are pain meds in Dominican Republic strong? First, I would not recommend going outside of US for Cosmetic Surgery. All questions- re/ your surgery should be directed to your chosen Operating Surgeon. It is that person's responsibility to render complete and responsible care to you.

Answer: Are pain medications in the Domimican Republic strong? It seems you are having some anxiety in reference to undergoing a TT and BBL in the DR. I think that anxiety is well founded and I know myself and essentially all board certified plastic surgeons in the U.S. would recommend against it. I certainly can't imagine any U.S. doctor writing narcotic pain meds for your surgery in the DR. Your treating doctor in DR will be responsible for your surgery, your medications, your post-operative care and/or any complications which may occur.

Answer: Medical Tourism The pain medications in the DR are likely the same as those used in the US provided that they are from a reputable source. However, I really discourage you from travelling outside of the US for surgery. I understand that combining a vacation and recovery along with less cost is attractive. However, many of us have seen patients return the US with disastrous results and long term complications. Please think about it.
