Just got hives 3 weeks before Breast Augmentation - can my surgeon still do the procedure?

My scheduled breast augmentation is in 3 weeks. I broke out in hives (possibly my detergent) and my PCP put me on prednisone. They have been flaring up in the morning. I am now panicking my surgeon won’t do the surgery. The hives are not on my breast, but stomach and arms. I am afraid that I will now have to pay hundreds of dollars to reschedule when i had no control over it. What should i do?

Dear Thoughtful95212,
you should be healthy prior to elective procedures. Every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Your safety is always the number one priority in surgery.  You will need to discuss your situation with your surgeon who will help determine if it is okay to proceed with surgery or if it is better to wait.  I'm sure it would be frustrating to have to reschedule if that is what is decided, but your health and safety comes first.

You need to call your surgeon's office and talk to him/her. You may need to come in to be examined. Only your surgeon will decide to proceed or cancel based on your hives. If you wait too late to call and your surgery must be rescheduled, your surgeon may choose to charge another booking fee, so please call now. Hi and welcome to our forum!I would make my surgeon aware of your problem as soon as possible. He / she may wish to reschedule the procedure for a later date, especially if you are still symptomatic or still taking prednisone, which retards the healing process.Best wishes...
